maybe intentional to reduce s Ear chability?
didn't work... lol
Ciclosporin from the asexual form of Cordyceps subsessilis, which is called (interestingly, i didn't know they could do this in the nomenclature world) Tolypocladium inflatum.
That in itself made it interesting to me - had no idea a fungus existed that had two radically different lives I believe (from initial reading) the Tolypocladium inflatum just hangs out in soil growing like a mold until a beetle gets infected with it, gets digested, dies, fruits, and disperses ascospores to keep the cycle going.
the drug has both good and bad effects on humans

thank you! i've been looking for something interesting without much success between some other stuff i actually had to do. until i do, please someone else go
to throw in my 2cents, there's nothing wrong with water being a topic! its weird stuff imo! glad its around in moderate quantities (usually.)
i'd give better explanations if i were more comfortable doing so (aka knew more about it)

ok, look at this puppy!

it has all kinds of things going on, like a pentane fused to an octane fused to a hexane! and an unsaturated carbon hanging out there just looking all lonely and not associating with that ester. just wow huh? whose idea was it to make that? bored fungi?
it is isolated from several fungi including basidiomycete, it is antibacterial and acts by disrupting protein synthesis
i'd be glad to supply hints on request (as able)

Up next, we have a vital amine. Please give the common names and for bonus points explain where this compound derives its color from.
Extra hint - It is common in fungi among other biota. It has high concentrations in yeast extracts.

That there be vitamin (vital amine) B12, riboflavin. I believe that its coloration comes from its conjugated ring structure (meaning it has lots of adjacent double bonds).
Fun fact: in conjugated molecules the electrons in the double bonds aren't associated with any particular pair of atoms, but rather "smeared" (that's actually a pretty good term for it) across the whole double bonded area. This is because of some properties of quantum mechanics which regard electrons not as particles, but as "clouds" of probability. I think that's pretty cool.

Bravo, but just one small correction. Riboflavin is vitamin B2 not B12. B12 is a Cobalt based corrin ring, structurally similar to a porphyrin ring. Porphyrins and similar ring structures like phthalocyanines make excellent pigments due to the heavy conjugation, and can exhibit nice spectral shifts depending on what type of ligand is bound to the central atom (See Co, Fe, Mg etc. coordination complex)

not there yet, but this is possibly interesting to some (it was to me as i researched,) whatever it turns out to be, we're pretty familiar with some similar compounds in everyday life
vanillin (just what you think it is)

eugenol - "It is a clear to pale yellow oily liquid extracted from certain essential oils especially from clove oil, nutmeg, cinnamon, basil and bay leaf. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It has a spicy, clove-like aroma." -from wikipedia

do those groups(benzyl ethers) all give nose and taste buds a tweak? (are there nose buds??)
glad you're enjoying it RD, i certainly am!

Okay. An easy one:
Recent research shows that this certain chemical compound is sequestered by several species of mushrooms in mycorrhizal relationships with trees, helping the trees actually grow faster. Previously it was thought that this process was facilitated through dead plant matter.
Name the chemical.
