You do t have to spend a lot of time removing sunflower seeds IMO. Hell some people don't even remove them

So my wbs passed toilet paper t3st however its stillsticky kind of.  Its nit clumping t8gether or anything but when I stick my hand inthe bucket and take it out its almost filmy .  Is this normal?  Like I said  its not clumoing at all.  This is all pre pc.

I was also curious.  I kind of measured wrong and ended up withmore jars than I need  I know with grain jarsi good for weeks after prezsure cooking bevore using them  they stay plenty hydrated and dont contam before iinnoculatein thT time.  Can I expect the samewith the wbs?

You don't have to, but sunflower seeds don't hold shit for water. My grain is 1/3 of my final fruiting substrate. I want as much water as I can get in it.

Dead, you're fine. You worry too much.

Like 36 said, sunflower seeds suck.

Plus, if you are rinsing your grains (and why wouldn't you?) then all those seeds float to the top. They're simple to skim off and dispose of. Just don't put them down your drain, they have clogged my sink's p-trap on multiple occasions

I assumed as much and good to know. Sometimes I get paranoid when I try new things because I see posts from other kats showing horror stories.  Like pictures of insanely over saturated jars of grain or WBS and claims of following teks to t.  I always wonder how in the hell those things happen as when I follow to a t everything really works out. I'm led to believe when people claim they followed to a t they are leaving out a few shortcuts they may have took I gather. Well I gather i will see this time around. Loading jars commencing followed by two PC cycles of 28 jars total.

Again.  Should I be ok with 14 of those jars uninnoculated for a week or two?

You should be OK (like 95% chance), but it's hard to say. I've had a house so full of mold that I had 35 jars with cellulose SFD's and Polyfil sterilized sitting for a week that all spontaneously went bad before inoculation.

I can't agree with frank more. Never put them down your drain. I pulled out the sunflower seeds of a 40lb bag worth an figured I'd just run them down the garbage disposal. Backed all my drains up and got a very weird look from the plumber that snaked them out. Lol

Ok so I let them steam dry.  It passed the paper towel test. I just took them out of the pressure cooker. Like I said I'm new to WBS. I know my rye grain never really looks this wet. Can any of you guys tell by the pics if my moisture content is too wet or not?

make sure your lid is on tight and give them a shake, do they roll around rather easily?

Too wet.

They should be completely dry on the outside.

All the moisture should be on the inside of the grains.

your grains should be fairly firm when you take them off the simmer. and let steam/dry for about 2 hours

Yes.  If I just turn them they all roll around just fine aside from some sticking to the wall due to being a little wet. Otherwise no clumping.  It just seems pretty wet to me compared to my rye grains.

it's normal for some moisture to be there right after the pc cycle, it will go away within a day
