Exercise bands?
    #19362543 - 01/03/14 09:21 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Anyone use them?
What kind of exercises can you do with them?
What brands do you recommend?

My situation:

I live in a basement with low ceilings (can't extend arms fully overhead.) I had weights, but my space is too cramped. Tried going to the gym, but it's too busy. Looking for something I can do at home to supplement swimming/running/cycling. Not looking to get big, but would like to add strength to my core and upper body. Just started looking into bands.

I have 2 that sometimes I bring with me when I travel, but normally I actually bring a very big dumbbell. You can do some things. Curls, inverse flys, tricep extensions, shoulder presses, and anything else you can think of.

I have kettlebell, but can't do overhead work with it because of my low ceilings!

However, it's been awhile since i used them, and i decided earlier that i should use what I have, rather than buying something new.

I can swing. So i will swing.

You can pretty much do anything with bands you can do with dumb bells from what I can tell.

I like the idea of bands for being on the road.  Takes up very little space in the vehicle.

I've been using them for a while and I love them. They are highly versatile and much, much more practical than weights. You can even use an '' anchor '' and squeeze it between a door and the frame to open up more possibilities instead of using your feet to hold the band in place. I'm really a fan of elastic bands. I recommend bodylastics, great products. I even had one of my bands broke near the handle and they replaced it, no questions asked, within a couple of days. They sent me another one. They rock. Check out their website, they have bands for begginers all the way to experts levels.

Basically, fuck the gym. With bands and an anchor, you can work your whole body without losing precious time coming and going from the gym. I certainly don't have time to waste and with those, I can work out at home.

I dont especially want to put an anchor in my wall.

Are there other options?

Not in your wall, if fits between a closed door and the frame ( below it or above it ). You can use it and remove it at any time.

I use bands from time to time. I've had problems accidentally giving myself blisters. You have to wear gloves with fingers covered as well.

Are you talking about those type of bands?

Because these are the ones I'm using. No blisters!
