Blake's Winter Grow

Well, it's been a busy winter. When I finally got a few days to myself, I got to work! This grow is mainly PE, but I have a few other goodies involved
To start, I have a tub I made up from an old spawn bag. When I left, this bag didnt look too hot. It pinned when I was away, so I picked a first flush from it and spawned it to a tub. First flush in the bag was a measly half o (I think, I didnt even weigh it)

And from there, I have 2 other tubs and 5 buckets. I found a few buckets from my first grow and had extra spawn, so I made up some buckets. The two tubs are MS mazatepec and MS PE, both on RGS. I'm not too hopeful on these as there wasnt really any strong growth in either, but we'll see. I also have 1 MS maz bucket, maybe 2. And I have I think 3 that are PE. I don't really know though for sure, we'll see when it starts fruiting.
My main goal for the PE and maz ones are to get a decent culture from a clone. My main mistake from my PB cultures (which produce 8+ oz dried first flush) is that I cloned mature fruits. The cultures arent always strong, and the potency isnt really impressive.

I have 40 MS PE plates made up, and they should be fully colonized in a week. My plan for that is to make up jars next weekend and use 20 plates, and put the other 20 in my fridge once colonized. 2 weeks after, I'll make up more jars and try and keep a consistent cycle going of MS PE until I get some solid cultures to test

Then I have about 10 RGS qrt jars that I G2G'd 2 days ago

I have 7 WBS qrt jars that I G2G'd 2 days ago as well. As you can see (hopefully) the WBS jars are progressing way faster. I attribute this to my RGS not being hydrated fully. I've had some issues with this lately, and once RGS is available in my area again I'm going to do some tests and make sure I perfect it again.
You can also see 6 Rye berry qrt jars that are nearing full colonization. These were made up before christmas and inoculated with agar wedges. The reason why these took so long is that I forgot to make sure my little space heater was plugged in, so it was chilly.
There's also 12 WBS qrt jars that were sterilized yesterday, some will be G2G'd from a single Rye jars, and others will away inoculation from my MS PE agar plates

I have 2 RGS bags that were G2G'd from a Rye jar, as well as 2 WBS bags G2G'd from a Rye jar. Like the jars, the WBS is progressing way faster.

I have 11 WBS spawn bags that were sterilized in the past few days. Those will be G2G'd when the 6 Rye jars are finished colonizing. Should be at the end of the week.

I also bought a new tub and used my old steam pasteurizer stuff to make a new, bigger one. I can pasteurize enough Coir/Verm to make 6 tubs in one go. I LOVE it

I have some other stuff going on as well. I inoculated agar plates with Pan Cyan spores so I can have another go at that (my last attempt didnt "pan" out as I was tending to my much more fruitful PB grow). I also have some Oysters and Lions Mane on agar plates to get some edibles in play. And I'll be taking a look into my slant library and starting probably 3 separate cultures just for fun
I'll try and keep this updated, but I usually don't update unless significant stuff happens so it may be an update every 3-5 days since the begining of grows can be a bit boring

I'm about to build a similar pasteurizer. Has it worked out well for you?

It's worked great. When doing bulk grows, it could take days pasteurizing everything on a stove top when you're limited to 7 jars a run. Plus cleaning them out is a bitch, and if you dont have a ton of jars to spare, you have to really manage your pasteurizing and spawn times.
I only use coir/verm/gypsum for my substrates, so they are naturally contam resistant. While it isnt proper pasteurization, it works wonders for me. The only contams I get is from spawn or weak cultures. If you want to truly ensure your substrate gets pasteurized completely, use smaller bags. I use oven bags or turkey bags, and they are HUGE. Turkey bags hold enough substrate for almost 2 tubs. I use the smaller ones, and am currently looking to buy some slim and tall bags so the heat doesnt have to penetrate so deep.

I'm really excited for this grow. Although MS PE won't match any culture I have to use, my god are those guys potent. I really hope to pull a qp off each tub first flush, with a oz or so second flush. My last experience with PE I was getting like 3 oz each tub, but I didnt have the knowledge that I have now, so I'm really hoping for more

That's from one of the tubs. I didn't let them fully mature either, so I have high hopes

Yes they are
Have you tried throwing a casing layer on top of your PE?
I average about 9-10oz per 66qt tub with coir/verm (from MS). A casing layer seems to be particular awesome when working with PE.

I didnt try a casing layer when I did my tubs, but that was a full year ago. I think my substrate was short too, like maybe 2.5". I think a full year of experience will have me yielding far better than I did last year, specially if I use a casing layer. We'll see soon enough

Here's the only update. As you can see, WBS bag is doing way better than RGS bag. Although RGS isn't doing bad in retrospect.
I G2G'd 1 jar into 2 bags yesterday. Tomorrow I'll G2G 2 jars into 4 bags.
I shook all the WBS jars. They are looking terrific. I guess I'll be able to G2G those in less than a week.
I shook some RGS jars. Those will be about 4 days behind the WBS jars.
I inoculated 12 WBS jars with PE MS agar wedges. I'm starting to isolate with these as well as get a good clone going, and test which is better (in the future).
