Some actual live edible PNW mushroms
    #19408999 - 01/12/14 04:15 PM (10 years, 18 days ago)

I know out door cultivation has always had a place in the hearts of  the hunting forum peeps. So I feel fine sharing with you , one of my Pluerotus ostreatus logs  started fruiting in the new year here after the big freeze. :awedance:

This is not typical plug spawn inoculation, I took too 12-14 inch long alder logs, drill holes around the the perimeter of the log following the inside line of the bark, packing a bunch of sawdust spawn in the holes and then pancaking the 2 stumps together with a 1 inch layer of sawdust spawn, then wrapping them together with some shrink wrapp i ganked from an old job many years ago.
I wrapped it in a garbage bag for 6 months then left it out on the lawn in a soggy place.
The beauty of ostreatus is the winter fruiting !

Very cool! I'm freaking jealous! :congrats:
It looks like it's just getting started too
My oyster logs fruited in the first part of the Fall but I haven't seen any life since.
I'm sure it's been colder up there than it has down here too.

Nice dude!  I just put some p. ostreatus logs out in my yard (i did plug spawn).  Can't wait for them to fruit next fall/winter.  They're a tasty treat when nothing else is growing.
