Can you give me hair advice?
    #19406848 - 01/12/14 04:13 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Occasionally I will have a little fun with my hair () but normally I just buzz it a few times a year and push it into a rough side-part if I am looking to impress.  Lets just say I look pretty much like this mofo:

I am semi-balding in terms of hairline and on top, sort of like in these pictures:

So I was going to buzz it down tonight, err last night, but then someone told me that I should go get it cut good and proper.  At first I thought 'fyec noe' but then it sank in a bit and I realized I have never really gotten a nice haircut.  Even when my parents would take me when I was a kid I would just get a trim, not really a style.

So I might try to get a haircut later today, or I might try to do something with it myself and then just buzz it off if I fail.

I don't know what to do!  I have a job so it can't be too crazy (no halfbeard or fronthawk), but I want something that will make people think I might actually give half a shit about the way I look.

Should I just get a trim?  Buzz?  Or is there a hairstyle you think might look good on me?

Example pictures would be great.  Like I said must be workplace approved, but my job is pretty lax, no specific prohibitions.  Feel free to offer any other grooming advice or hurtful insults, I'm really clueless when it comes to this stuff, but I'm trying to change myself these days. :peace:!

Long beard to start with, as in the picture with half beard you look smarter imho.
Friendly mutton chops maybe? asd
Then adjust hair according to pleasure, Id advise to keep them short, as in the picture with half beard, or maybe shorter.

Anyway Im pretty bad at judging hair styles, Im not getting to a barber since 10 years and I used to adjust mine in the bathroom, getting worse haircuts one can imagine. Now I have them shoulder long like so no more problems, even if I still need an adjustment before final peace

I reccomend a conservative hairdo cause it would be a better look for you than wild stuff, try a do that will impart some volume.

Why thanks.  Mostly people who comment on my appearance say things like "Are you sick/tired/ok?" which sometimes makes me think I might look a bit disheveled, but I feel ok and I really don't spend alot of time thinking about my looks at all.  I'm just bored and feeling like a change, as I said I've never really got many pro haircuts.

I think I'll give your suggestion a go Wiccan!  I am in line for a promotion at work and that'd probably give me a boost looking all professional.  Maybe it'd fool ladies into thinking that I'm dateworthy

I like your ideas too Brown Buff!

Not to dig at you but the wilder hairdo's accent that your hair is fairly thin, and volume is appreciated more so get a do that accents volume.

I have very thin hair too, always had even as a kid so its not to do with aging, fluffing it up a bit significantly adds to appeal.

I appreciate your honesty.  Thats really just the type of advice I was looking for.  Yeah, my hair has been like this since I was young too.  Sometimes the planets will align in a certain way and my hair will fluff up a bit, but too often it is all cowlicks and scalp

The times I have gone to the barber I always draw a blank when they ask what I want.  Now I feel like I have a starting point at least.

If you trust your barber, ask him or her what they'd think looks best on you. Hair is their thing and they tend to have very defined opinions on it.

I had a barber I was fond of ten years ago maybe.  He was an old guy, maybe 70 or 80 at the time.  I liked his shop because he didn't ask what I wanted.  It was a conservative haircut and shave for a fair price, no fancy stuff, no attitude.

I hate shaving, but getting shaved by him was not only bearable, but soothing.  Everything old-school with the straight razor, strop, the warm foam on the soft brush.  First time he broke out the razor I was a little nervous, but that man groomed me with such gentle smooth skill that I've not found in a barber before or since.

Now he's giving Jesus a 1950s haircut in the big barbershop in the sky.  His shop is kinda "hoodish" now, which are a dime a dozen round here.  I need to find another old-school shop.

You look presentable to me.
Alternately, you could shave your head and it'd look okay for you.

Get yourself to a salon that services men too.  Go in and tell them you're a guy looking for a quality cut, and you'd like the stylist with the most experience doing mens cuts.  they'll either (a) have one on hand who just happens to have more exp, or (b) it wont matter, they'll all be competent.  Then just go say hi. It's not like the stylist needs you to tell them what to do - they know what cut you'll look best with.  An experienced stylist will take your hair type, facial layout, head shape, sense of style, and then pick the best cut to fit your person.

Worth the $40 for the cut.  Once they cut it, take a bunch of pictures and (assuming what they did wasn't egregiously complex) bring them to the SuperCuts for your next (now inexpensive) cut
