Having to clean up after tweeker hoarders, I just get pissed. Pissed. It's fucking wrong to just throw shit in the dirt. And why the hell would anyone save mail from 10 years ago?
Death anxiety. That has to be it.

Good plan. Most of them aren't worth remembering from what I've seen.

You seem to be jesting with Icelander, but you might be right. I just mailed Becker's The Denial of Death to my BFF, because he has not realized that his sister dying, followed by his father dying 10 months later has profoundly compounded his own death-anxiety. He has always been hypochondriacal, a wheat-grass drinker and all-round preventative health freak. But now he is beginning to realize the extent to which all these control issues go back to his suppressed death-anxiety.
My friend is not a hoarder, but I recently finished a book about Sigmund Freud's collecting of antiquities, mostly Egyptian statues (The Sphinx on the Table). He could not go on vacation without packing up crates of his "dollies" and taking them with him. Egyptian culture was built on death. On a couple of documented occasions: entering his mother's cemetery, and after Jung had related a dream to Freud, Freud passed right out and fell down. Freud interpreted Jung's dream as a death-wish for him (it wasn't), but I'm just trying to illustrate collecting with death-anxiety in the case of Freud. As a post-script, when Freud was lying close to death, in agony, his gangrenous cheek and jaw completely eaten away by cancer, caused by his 20 cigar a day habit, he asked his physician to put him out of his misery, which he did, with 2 injections of morphine.

True. But coming from you that's hardly going to sting.

Thank God for morphine. Sounds like he should have been put out of his misery years before however.
Well as I accumulate collectibles it makes me feel no safer from death. In fact it is pretty much a reminder that nothing is forever, nothing really has much value, and life is going to extinguish regardless.
My biggest collection is houses. Real estate is hard to deny.

Even DA is not all powerful. Put someone in enough misery and they want out. Extreme suffering and pain FTW.

Extreme pain and suffering FTW? WTF?
Is death your comfort or something? Or is your denial that deep, you flip it upside down to even handle it?

As usual I have no idea what you're talking about. Nor it seems do you have any idea what I was saying. No surprises here.

What would make it for lose though? The fact that its uncomfortable?

No, the fact that to say it's FTW is fucking ridiculous. Like I pointed out earlier.

Why exactly it is ridiculous is what I'm wondering.

You still seem to be missing the context I was using it in. It was a fucking joking way to say it is more powerful than DA/

I personally wouldn't assign either of those words (good or bad) to describe suffering.
Personally, suffering has helped me grow stronger and wiser and has also hindered and harmed me in ways. I wouldn't say either outcome is good or bad, just the nature of things.

What's the psychology behind one continuously cleaning up after and complaining about tweaker hoarders? Amend their lease to include that they pay for weekly lawn/home cleaning service. Voila.

Im an ex-hoarder (it got really bad) but now I live as a minimalist. All my furniture is folding and I keep next to no possessions unless I need them for work or life.
My conscious/subconscious reasoning and justification comprised of several things;
- I may need these items someday
- the items could be dismantled and reassembled in different configurations to make things
- did not want to see them end up in the landfill (but my house became the landfill)
- if I threw them away Id lose all memory to which they were attached
- the items were my "friends" in a world where I was a relative loner.
