The electrician isn't going to let you use telephone wire to electrify your house and the pilot isn't going to let you get off wherever you want. Why can't a food expert tell you what you can't eat?
I can choose not to use an electrician and choose not to fly, if I wanted I could hire a food expert to tell me what I shouldnt eat or I could choose not to, we already have these experts telling us what isnt healthy and legislation that requires labeling of food products, why do I need more laws that restrict what I can do, why do I need the self righteous people demanding these laws be passed?

@Patlal - in the OP you were asking for solutions. Are you yourself overweight? Are you concerned for peers/friends/family members? Are you just asking as a theoretical curiosity as to what might work?
If we are to find any solution at all, we'd need to know who it is for and on what time scale, or what resources are available to apply them.
The solution might sometimes be as simple as a variation on the way people say grace (aimed not at religious ideals but at health ones) as practiced by some Asian communities described here. Seems to work for them. If concerned for self or family, it might be a matter of changing eating and/or shopping habits. The eating part might include buying smaller plates, chopsticks, or serving as a Swedish buffet, as opposed to having all the food in the center of the table, making it very tempting for people to go for seconds.
The shopping part might include shopping for food at a market instead of supermarket or changing supermarkets, which will force a new analysis of what foods are placed where, re-reading of ingredients list, etc.
I for one have found I eat much healthier when living alone, simply because I make my food choices when shopping, and I don't usually shop when hungry. The retard food remains on the shelves, doesn't get in my home. When living with others or visiting, there might be a large selection of junk food already in the fridge/kitchen, already opened and available, and invariably some of it gets tested or even a sweet tooth develops for it
Context is very much a factor in how people behave, this applies to sports, eating, everything. I think that the current context clearly isn't working for people, hence the rise in obesity.
@Prisoner#1 - What exactly are your proposed solutions, if you have any? People ARE in practice obese. Might be quite amusing to go at them, I like poking fun at whales as much as the next guy, but it's not too effective in making them thin again. IMO the context they live in (one different from say, what we had in 1970) contributes largely to the rise in obesity. If not a change in policy and better foods on the shelves, then what do you think will bring obesity down? People magically becoming more interested in cardio?

my serious response: Do what they are doing with cigarettes. Putting adverts at the beginning of every movie in Idia. Posters everywhere. etc. Bring it to people's attention. Being healthy is fun lol. I think that is the main missing point here. I always used to ask myself before quitting a drug, or being healthy, or meditating daily "damn that seems pretty boring". but being healthy is fun!
Also, my unserious answer; Force-feed 4 grams of kratm down everyone's throat everymorning and force them to get a killer workout in until the are in shape. Meanwhile do a crash course in nutrition

Ok but surely you must have some sense that people are equally lazy and ignorant as they have always been throughout history, yet only very recently has obesity become a real problem.
Even if the fatties die off now, more will come about later, as new kids grow up. There's a context that's prone to obesity, probably more so in the US than most other countries. You think that's a good idea? Furthermore you think it's a good idea to let it become more obesity-prone than it is now?

why is obesity a problem? because government, media and other busybodies are telling you it's a problem. if you're obese then that problem is yours, it's not mine, your weight doesnt affect my life in the slightest, neither would you having a same sex marriage, an abortion or anything else
why exactly is someone elses obesity a problem for any of us? cant stand to look at them? then dont look. but dont make me or anyone else take up someone elses shit because you have a problem with a 3rd parties weight, if you have an issue with it, help them yourself

Pris, explain how marijuana prohibition is the democrats fault? If anything, our current situation re: drugs is on Nixon and Reagan's bitch wife.
I love Honey Boo Boo. She has the personality of a 400lb black woman, literally the funniest child of all time. Plus that show makes fun of that family for how slovenly and disgusting and fat they are.
her mother has a boyfriend, a stable relationship
just let that sink in for a minute
Everytime I lose hope in finding a guy, and think that I'm going to be alone forever, I always try to remember Honey Boo Boo's mom.
Although to be honest if my choices were to be single or be with this guy, I think I'd rather be single.

That's not true. The FDA also does periodic testing to ensure quality and sanitization of food. The entire reason it was exposed that Chinese brands of soy-milk and baby formula were cutting their products with melamine, was because of testing from the FDA.
Part of your taxes go to the FDA. Funding agencies that ensure food quality and prescription drug safety definitely does not "restrict your freedoms."
