    #19406008 - 01/11/14 09:57 PM (10 years, 19 days ago)

Norton expired, and I'm broke.

Avast or AVG does the job.

http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index
http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

I just use Microsoft Security Esssentials.  It's free, fairly light weight and is sufficient for anyone with decent security sense.  I'm using win7 though.

I would never recommend paying for AV.  In my experience the paid for services are more or less equal to the free ones except they're are more resource draining.  Norton is a bloated pile of crud that has crippled many an older machine for me. It's the media player equivalent of iTunes.  Looks grand, does what everything else does but runs an excessive amount of programs in the background.

Thank you sir. I've had good experiences with Avast.

I'll look into avg a bit more, and see where I end up.

Spy Bot Search & Destroy, AVG Free, and you should have Malware Bytes Anti Malware to perform on demand scans when ever you feel like it is neccesary.

You should consider getting a firewall, If you don't want the built-in windows one, Comodo makes a good free one

Personally I'd go with the AVG you can set it up to update and scan when you know you will not be on your computer and it gets updated at the same rate as something like Norton.
