string of train derailments

There's been a number of derailments involving oil and coal railcars recently in north America. It seems awfully coincidental a powerhouse like the railway would be having so many issues. Since the Lac Megantic disaster, perhaps before, there's been talk of Canada reviewing the idea of moving oil by rail.
Ive been postulating if perhaps oil companies are behind this string of events to neutralise some of the opposition to two large (and very profitable) proposed pipelines. As Day-Lewis's character said "you move the oil by pipeline and save on transportation costs".
I didn't post in Conspiracy forum as it's just my speculation, and would appreciate anything you have to add.
Cheers.

I think that there have been lots of derailments in the past that we just didn't hear about, or pay attention to, because the cars were full of wheat or canadian tire shit.
Now that the trains are carrying a lot more oil, they tend to make a huge fireball when they go off the rails... and you know how much the newscasters love huge fireballs.

Yeah I don't think derailments are really that unusual.

How recent? We got hit hard by a few storms over christmas. Took down tons of power grids. Caused tons of accidents. I'm sure a lot of the tracks get snowed and iced over and can cause issues.
Could also be natives. I know of in northern alberta oil fields, natives would shoot at the portable field offices with high powered rifles from long distance. They were targeting the offices, not people. I'm such those actions could escalate to messing with rail tracks somehow. I dont know if it has been investigated. I do know when they would shoot the field offices, it was hugely downplayed and it was never really spoken of in the media.

i was discussing this with my father a couple weeks ago.. train derailments are common yes, but it seems like the ones carring oil are derailing more often.. Could be to make it seems like "oh train is a not so safe way to ship oil, oh we should pipeline it then" kinda scenario..
but who really knows right?
and i doubt its the natives if anyone is fucking with it. they dont want the pipelines and protest against them, because lots of the lines cut through their land or whatever.. so if anyone was destroying it, i would guess the companies themselves to push the idea of pipelines as a better alternative

Pipelines are a safer alternative than trains. The problem is the people who are supposed to be monitoring them don't notice the spill, or ignore it, and it happens in middle of nowhere so it just keeps spilling. But then again it doesn't matter because the whale huggers in BC are opposed to a pipeline for ideological reason, not practical reasons. I don't think we will ever see that pipe built. Not that I care. I would rather leave the oil in the ground instead of selling it to China. Don't know what the rush is to get it all now. Actually I do know it's greed. I highly doubt the recent derailments are committed by oil interests. Derailments happen a lot, and have been for decades. The infrastructure like tracks and signals are poorly maintained. Anyway CP can suck my dick, I hate those assholes, they give zero fucks about the neighbourhoods their yards are in.
