I don't see that logic at all.  People should be free to be fat, no one should be incarcerated for their lifestyle choices.

Anyway, I tried to find a solution, apparently its impossible.

You bunch of fat people defender.

If you despise the fact the the poor get hand outs from the rich than technically you should be despise the fatties in favor of the skinny.

Oh well, fat people have rights too... and we pay harshly for it. Just like the poor.

Strange world we live in.

You haven't read enough threads and I'm right.

Fat people cost on average 150 billion per year because of their fatness. That's more than enough to affect profit. Shareholders lose money because of fatness.

When your weight affects my dividends. It's my business.

Let me say this again.  Pay people for production and nothing else.  Then it won't matter how fat they are.  If they get the job done they get the job done.

You do realize you are making an argument for prohibition, right?  Obesity isn't the only thing that diminishes work performance.

Smokers and alcoholics cost more in healthcare costs as well, so do people who make reckless decisions.  Its their lives, if you want to bitch about anything complain that everyone has to foot the bill for their lifestyle.  Doesn't seem fair to me.  If they want to live their lives looking like that, who is anyone to tell them they can't.  I will be judging them all the while, but people do the same thing with me and everyone else too.

I have the hope that people are intelligent enough to understand that some prohibition is necessary to make society work. But it seems people want to take the decision of making intelligent choices by themselves. End result: who were we kidding, people can't make intelligent decisions lol.

Oh well.

Maybe I just don't have this sense of wanting ultimate freedom on absolutely everything imaginable. I wouldn't mind if the government banned so form of fatty food. I would applaude it. Maybe I'm completely insane, who knows

Not everyone is blessed with a rational, conscious mind.  Not everyone has ideal life situations.  Sure I can have an array of negative feelings towards her, but that will not benefit me.  Live and let live.

The one thing that I have the most trouble understandung about the American culture (which amazes me) is that;

You guys would rather defend your right to buy poison food rather than having the government tell companies not to sell poison food to the public for a profit.

I mean, if the government told them to make and sell healthier foods, the entire population would benefit from it and probably won't even see the difference.

It just amazes me that you would put your right to purchase bad food rather than preventing bad food from being sold.

Look at how much people freaked out about bloomberg trying to regulate soda.  People would not have it.  People would claim it against civil liberties.
I would love for that to happen though.  I imagine it would make produce far more affordable, which would be splendid.

Yep. If its a civil liberty to buy unhealthy foods if you choose to, it also means that it's the corporations right to produce unhealthy foods. Which is extremely convienient because processed foods has been invented by the same corporation

I dunno. When you see a company selling sketchy stuff, tell them to stop and do better.

we can see why you dont understand, canadians have no actual concept of
what freedom is while in the US we know what freedom is, including the
freedom to choose whether we want to buy food or not

except we wouldnt benefit because we have options taken from us, maybe if
the market dictated healthier food then the companies would adjust, if the
didnt then they'd see losses and even go under in many cases.

it's my right to purchase healthy food just as it's my right to purchase
garbage, so you dont believe in allowing people the right to choose and
believe that big daddy government should be there to protect us from
ourselves? you should suggest this for canada since that's where you live,
you need to push it all the way to parliament and inform all canadians that
they're too stupid to choose for themselves

Its not a matter of being to stupid. Its a matter that people trust that what's on the grocery shelf is food that is good for you. But it isn't. There's probably a dozen product in your fridge right now that has ingredients you can't pronounce. If not you, definitely most people. Some of these product are great, others are bad. The gov has the budget to hire chemist to analyze food. Why can't they just tetll the companies to find healthier alternatives? Transfats for example. Absolutely toxic, easily replaceable and people won't see the difference, they'll just get used to it.

If I give you an apple and an orange to choose from, I trust you're intelligent enough, but when I give you the choice to either buy a product containing propylene glycol alginate or another containing methyl-ρ-hydroxy Benzoate. What do you choose?

We have the power of government, it has the power to look out for our wellbeing as a nation. It has the power to prevent corporations from abusing us.

My last argument might not convince you cause it seems like its been a long time since the US government has been operating on the motto "for the people, by the people", but it sstill is the case elsewhere.

Not all Americans are this obtuse. We can actually learn things from other countries. I'm so sick of this freedom bullshit, and frankly a lot of foreigners laugh when they hear Americans boast about their culture of imprisonment and medical bankruptcy and gun violence.
