The Ultimate Universal Mantra 2

After trying practically every meditation mantra, pose, and style I conclude that they all work. The main factor for me always being the mantra. The pose or type of meditation seem to make trivial differences for me. When I speak of mantra I mean all forms, I found that verbally speaking or humming your mantra worked well, but repeating my mantras mentally was equally effective. "Ohm" or "not body, not mind" observing breath, or a slow drum beat all work both ways. The only constant I see in a good mantra is a consistent repetition which doesn't shift or change tone much, because anytime the tone changed I recognized it, and recognition is a mind process, thus meaning shifting beats causes you to think more, not less. This can be bad for beginners in my opinion. So I just had this idea that there has to be an ultimate perfect mantra for everyone, and works well. Eventually I decided that this ultimate meditation aid is your own heartbeat. So I tested some heartbeats I found online, with headphones on. I found it worked well. But I wanted to test with my own heartbeat so I bought a stethoscope($10 @ Walmart, Walgreens, CvS, etc) I adjusted the ear pieces to fit my head comfortably, and held the device to my heart and attempted a meditation session. What happened then was surprising, I've never reached a blissful rejuvenative state so quickly and so effortlessly(meditating should always be effortless, I just can't choose a better word). The sound of your own heart is mesmerizing, its consistent, its your life force! When you start, you can tell your heart is in an active state, pumping normally, but 5mins into it the beat begins to slow dramatically but through an extremely smooth transition, this transition pulls you in very deeply and quickly into the meditative consciousness level. Quite difficult to articulate, I recommend you try it.
Lastly, I found the stethoscope to be uncomfortable to my ears so I removed the hard plastic ear pieces and slipped on actual rubber pieces from ear buds. If you find holding the thing to your heart uncomfortable, you can tape it to your chest, if you're not too hairy, or use a large rubberband or belt around your chest.
Its your own special beat, no mental or verbal effort required, and the ear pieces mute outside sounds forcing you to hear nothing but the heart. Just wanted to share because it worked so well for me. Love you all.

You could get an old mic and take it apart and use the diaphragm taped to you.
Or I think you can get actual contact mics at even radio shack and I'm sure elsewhere.
It would be sick to have a heartbeat sample to work with musically.
Throw in some binaural beats with tone generators and sell that shiz.

That's some good thinking. I would like to see what a real heartbeat with binurals sound like, blended.

I'll give you a little advice I could have used then. Be consistent, meditate twice a day, every day. 15-20mins is plenty per session. Don't pay for anything, ever; it's not necessary, and is typically a scam. You'll know when you've reached the meditative state; My first time reaching what I considered the meditative state of consciousness started with a pleasurable tingling which started in my scalp, almost as if I could feel energy being allowed to flow into my head, this feeling began to head downward, but now that I meditate more often this no longer happens, it's just more of a peaceful, present, blissful, rejuvenation.
Things you may or may not already know:
Do not try to meditate, just be -- just relax and bring your mind to the mantra.
Do not judge your thoughts, they are just part of that human mind, neither wrong nor right, they just are.
Do not try to avoid thoughts, or get frustrated at your mind switching it's focus to the random thoughts which will come and go. Simply observe your thoughts as if you were another person observing someone else's thoughts, just let them come and go, and keep bringing your concentration back to the mantra. When you are just starting out, your mind WILL wander, and wander. The art is just observing them and concentrating on the mantra, once you begin to stabilize your thoughts they will become smaller, and smaller, until they are gone.
Meditation is an exercise, just like lifting weights or running, it must be trained, you do not get muscles without training, you do not get bliss without training your meditation.
No method, even the one I wrote of above are a one-size-fits-all, before you settle, do some exploring. Some things work better for others, some people swear by an audible mantra, some by simple breathing. It's a matter of preference really, they all work.
This community is wonderful, if you have any questions or want to just talk about whats going on with your practice, make a thread or message someone! I am included in this of course, though admitedly I am no guru, I have had extensive practice and have done extensive research. I can probably help you, but there are much more qualified people around.

I use the Jesus prayer linked to my breathing and heart beat. In situations where I can't hear my heart beat or when it is beating too quickly due to activity, I simply follow my breath but when I am aware of my heart beat I follow that too. At first it takes a lot of effort to say the Jesus prayer, I mean lots and lots of effort, but once it begins to become effortless, it is extremely powerful because of the power of the name of Jesus.

This thread has inspired me to start meditating on a more regular basis. Twice a day may really help me stick to it. Tmethyl.

Nothing I'd rather hear, thank you for posting TGA.
Anyone else tried it? I'd love to hear some feedback. Curious if it was as effective for others as it was for me.

Just read the OP. That's great man
I usually take notice when my girlfriends pulse is particularly strong and she the same of me. It does draw our attention towards that rhythm quite naturally. We can lay listening in silence for some time. So I see what you mean about using it as a mantra. I will lay down and listen to it in a few minutes as we drift towards sleep. Thanks brother

Excellent Kickle, you're very welcome, and hope you have a great night. It's really cool to observe and experience the different heartbeats of different people or animals, for instance a females heartbeat is always faster I notice, it has a very different sound than a males. But human males' heartbeats can also be noticeably different, some deeper, some weaker, some less consistent. Children's heartbeats are very noticeably different as well, my daughters is really neat. Most animals heartbeats are very rapid and consistent, if your cat/dog, for example, is sleeping on your lap(or near) you can use his or her heartbeat too, but it's nothing like using your own I find.
Next, my main issue was placing the sensor part of the stetheoscope on my chest and keeping it there, the methods I mentioned in the OP worked well but are not quite as simple or logical as the one which I am now adding: You can hear your heartbeat from your back just as well. Place the stethescope sensor on your back, under your left shoulder blade then lie down, or lean back into a chair for your meditation session, it will stay pressed firmly to your skins thus allowing clear crisp heartbeat mantras. Next, if you want, place the sensor under your right shoulder blade to use your lungs as a mantra. Hear your breath enter and escape.
Lastly, my second choice in mantras(the OP being #1) is this:
Good night friends.
