i've seen the trees bubbling right after a warmup that was 'unseasonable'
at the time i assumed it was due to degassing the gas accumulated in liquids while it was cold (cold making the gas more soluable*) excaping while the 'upper half' thawed
(*its why your pop looses its fizz as it warms)
i would love to hear from a biologist as to the real reason.
also... that first shroom is pretty cool!

we did just have a big warmup, 7 degrees below to 30's to 65 today, all within a week... but it could have been the insect also... but i saw three different trees that were "bubbling". never seen anything like that before. and yeah! that Elaphocordyceps is awesome! ive found three of the coolest mushrooms ive found to date within the past 2 days! well, i guess the Phyllotopsis isn't anything special...i've just been wanting to find it for the last month or so, so that was awesome!

Yeah I like RuralAnomaly's explanation about the tree bubbles better. I've only ever seen spit bugs on small green plants since thats what they eat apparently. I was working under the assumption that gasses became more soluble in liquids at higher temps. Whoops, thats for the solubility of solids. I know I learned it at some point in school but all I remember about it is that boiled water tastes like shit because there are no longer any gasses dissolved in it due to the high temps.
Come to think of it, the only time I see bubbles on wood is when not-quite-seasoned logs go on the fire and I guess it explains that too. Thanks dude!

Unfortunately, I have the crappiest scope on earth! So I'm not really sure...but I read that's the only way to separate the species...

Nice finds
Your pics are a bit small it'd be great if you could host them a bit bigger.
#1 is very cool, I had never heard of Elaphocordyceps.

Well not the only way...Elaphocordyceps longisegmentis is supposed to be a little bit shinier.
