oh and the other thing also about replacing stuff , i got lots of peat moss and many teks require coco coir , what if instead of coco i put peat moss , does that work too?
thanx  :crazy2:

You really just need something to keep the trays/cakes out of the water. Geolite is the best IMO, but perlite should work the only thing with perlite is it tends to get mashed and powder could clog up the airstone, but thats just thought. How about lava rock as used in gas BBQs? With a large airstone in you PMP I don't see why you could not just use some clean pebbles.

Peat moss is fine for casing, but it is a little to acidic, you will need to add lime/calcium carbonate to neutralise the acid. Its all the the casing tek's on this site.

The geolite/perlite also helps wick the water to generate a high humidity. Perlite works fine. Geolite is much better though. If you use lava rocks from your grill, then be sure to steralize them first. But if you have that much perlite lying around, I'd just use that instead.

Peat moss is only slightly acidic , you do not "have to" add lime or oyster shell . Mushies will do "okay" in a slightly acidic casing , it may however hinder flush size . Be very carefull when altering ph of case with hydrated lime , you can very easily swing ph from slightly acidic to extermely alkaline , mushies really hate that ! Alkline will kill myc quickly .
Good Luck

From what I've seen, ( and believe me I've got everybody around me using a pod ) the results from the lava rock have been as good as the geolite.
