If he lives in the US he's half way there. There are enough ways to end up incarcerated in this country to end up with even less freedom.

What some people fail to realize is that their dear government HAS ALREADY chosen for them. By subsidizing corn and HFCS, certain very unhealthy things are pushed on shelves, or as ingredients in various foods, that otherwise wouldn't need to be there. Money that could support a healthy lifestyle instead goes into junkfood.

think like what? that people should have the right to choose? fine, I propose a law that forces all vegans to eat their hose pets, they dont deserve a choice, I propose a law that forces healthy people to eat nothing but taco bell for 10 years. I propose a law that forces all canadians to come to the US to be sodomized in the US penal system for no less than 2 years
no, you shouldnt have any choices, you should do only what I deem fit for you
can you believe that people actually think that way? you're one of them.

but the government hasnt chosen for me, I choose not to eat the crap and everyone else can make the same choice, then it doesnt matter what's added to the food, the companies would change in order to keep from going under. the government doesnt force or compel me to eat the crap, they have told me I cant consume drugs and I strongly disagree with that as well

I'm not a conservative, I'm an anarchist. and yes, I oppose subsidies to any corporations, I oppose paying out money to individuals to be lazy, i oppose government paying to house the lazy, I oppose them paying to foreign nations, I even oppose them paying for cops when I'm quite capable of dealing with my problems myself, unfortunately there are laws that provide for punishment if I do that

If the government doesn't tell private corporations to not do things like store enough ammonium nitrate to blow up a town IN THE MIDDLE of a town, then corporations do things like blow up towns.

No, I think he's saying that nobody can be aware of every detail of what they consume. That's why we have experts in food safety, just as we have electricians to wire a house or pilots to fly planes. The electrician isn't going to let you use telephone wire to electrify your house and the pilot isn't going to let you get off wherever you want. Why can't a food expert tell you what you can't eat?

I know where you're coming from. I too eat quite healthy, stay away from all kinds of processed food, as much as possible. At the same time this is sometimes a MUCH more difficult process than it needs to be. A lot more than half the food in any given supermarket is crap that I consider inedible. You and I will in some way pay for those products being there. Directly, by not having more healthy choices (2 salads and 5 crappy chips, instead of 7 salads to choose from) and also by supporting the lazy fat unhealthy people that, out of ignorance or expediency, go for the chips.
Like was said above, it's not my job to know everything about advanced chemistry, in order to understand my food. I see no reason whatsoever for trans fat to even be legal, let alone being allowed in unregulated amounts in foods.
Look at chocolate for instance. Some of it is with trans fats, some without. I'd be OK with eating the one without. It's cumbersome as hell to find it every time, to have to read ingredients every time, especially if traveling. Since the one with trans fat is OK for sale, then every chocolate cake ever ordered at any restaurant might have it. How do you deal with foods that don't come with an ingredients list?
I say if my govt deals with the food at all, it should take out the worst crap it knows about, which currently it doesn't.
Bread for instance. I have simply given up on that out of frustration. I bought a bread machine and make my own and I eat good bread now. But when I'm traveling I can't take it with me. Right now I'm in the Netherlands. The bread here is pure shit, and also overpriced. I have yet to see bread that's made without 3-4 types of E ingredients (chems), or if it is, it costs 6-8 times as much as normal bread, or what my cheapo machine makes at home. This is IMO not a normal state of events. Bread is a simple enough product to not bring so many chems into it. The govt seems to fail at its job to regulate constructively, towards health.

I'll admit it, I'm not intelligent to decide everything by myself.
When I go to the grocery store I would like to know that what they have on their shelves has past a constantly harsher health inspection
When I go to the hardware store, I enjoy that there are standards the chainsaws has to meet.
I appreciate that cheap cars from china are not allowed because they don't pass safety inspections.
I enjoy that something takes care of this for me. I don't have sufficient knowledge or time or resources to determine these things. Its better I pay someone to do it for me
