Don't expect your pins to survive a dunk n roll though.

You can always birth them after the first flush is done and dunk n roll them then.

Especially if you've got a lot of pins already.

You can still dunk and roll with pins but in vitro method is almost 100% successful, however your fruits will look different and cap size will change

you should birth, pick the pins, put them to agar, dunk the cake, roll in agar, then enjoy two forms of growth done proper, instead of one half-assed lazy outdated grow.

It's his first grow. I doubt he has agar handy.

It's not that hard to make agar lol. One trip to whole foods or hell just mix BRF and water.
Just need a pressure cooker.

You don't even need a PC for a BRF agar substitute, but that's not really the point. Let the guy grow cakes in peace. It's his first grow.

Oh right, I forgot. People come to post on these forums during their first grows so they can be left in peace. Not to get as much mycology advice from as many people as possible.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Already have 2 more batches on the go, alcabenzi's and some classic golden teachers. I appreciate all the input I have gathered here and can definitely say it helped with my first grow. In regard to the previous statement about the agar, would anyone happen to have a good tek for this? Would consider trying it on my next batches if it is the 'right way'? Looking at the mushrooms now five weeks after inoculation and the pinning is visible on 10 of the 11 jars and there is even one mushroom approx 3 or 4 inches long!

For those who don't have agar and petri dishes this works as a half decent substitute: http://www.shroomery.org/8514/Agar-substitute
Use BRF not ground brown rice at 1 tspn brf - 2 1/2 tspn water in your regular half pint widemouth jars. Doesn't hurt to add some food colouring to make the myc and/or contams easier to see.

Ok I understand that but where is a good descriptive tek like the PF tek that I could use to start doing agar?
