No, my popcorn is on point in moisture   I'm pretty sure it was because of the ridiculous amount of vermiculite at the top.

I'm saying that the ridiculously slow mycelial growth  was probably due to both my impatience and the lack of O2 in the jars. So i removed the verm.... And learned some patience as well

I think the Wut is referring to adding vermiculite to a popcorn jar:lol:

Were you trying to use it as a contam barrier? It's only done with PF style jars. Need a filter for grains.

Oh. Well. It's out now. Checked them again today and saw white fuzzies of mycelia when I shook the kernels around at the top of the jar an now I'm gonna leave them alone till Saturday so the myc can really take hold. Would shaking affect them in any sort way affect EARLY growth. Though the resistance of mycelia is quite astounding, so I wouldn't think so. And yes I was trying to create a contam barrier.

you should rely only shake once around 30% colonization and then let them be.

Well, the wut was because he knew the grains were properly hydrated because of the loads of verm in the jars.
what does loads of verm in a jar tell about the moisture in the grains?

I hope when you removed the verm you did it in front of a flower hood or in a still air box. Even then I would consider it a risky procedure.

Shaking can indeed negatively affect early growth after a mutlispore inoculation. Mushroom mycelium grows very slowly until it finds a compatible strain to combine with so you want all spores to germinate near each other to make this happen sooner.

Opening those jars to take out verm is just asking for contams. I'd start batch 2 right away and not hope for too much from this batch. And this time after it's sterilized don't even think of opening the jars. Like they said spores can take a while to germinate on any substrate. :mushroom2:
