I do not know at the present moment.

Gotta be Carbon.

"Carbon is the 15th most abundant element in the Earth's crust, and the fourth most abundant element in the universe by mass after hydrogen, helium, and oxygen. It is present in all known life forms, and in the human body carbon is the second most abundant element by mass (about 18.5%) after oxygen."

Someone else can finish the answer, I don't have anything new to post anyway.

Lightning, I don't think that your picture is a good representation of carbon.  It only has 5 electrons (the yellow dots circling the nucleus), which, assuming it is a neutral atom, would make it boron, not carbon.  A better one might be:

This shows the correct number of electrons, as well as all the protons and neutrons in the nucleus.

Fun carbon fact:
The American MatsutakeTricholoma magnivelare, the non-photosynthesizing plant Allotropa virgata, and various pines form a three-way mycorrhizal system.  Carbon, in the form of atmospheric CO2 is "fixed" by the pine and incorporated into sugars produced by photosynthesis.  Some of these sugars are passed on to T. magnivelare through the the interface of its mycelium and the pine's roots.  Some of those sugars are then passed to A. virgata through the interface between its roots and the T. magnivelare mycelium.  In this manner, many non-photosynthesizing plants get the carbon they need for growth indirectly from photosynthesizing plants via a mycorrhizal partner.  I don't know what, if any, benefit this relationship gives the fungus or tree.

Ok, the chemical I am thinking of is a mycotoxin found in a very popular, edible, commercially cultivated mushroom.  It works by causing cells to burst, and particularly affects the heart.  It is also thought to be non-toxic when eaten, but dangerous in taken intravenously.

:sun: Just for clarity, the correct answer is carbon. The image was originally posted here

Is it Agaritine?

Not agaritine.  This chemical isn't found in agaricuses.

Helpful tip for terminology: Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by microfungi that are capable of causing disease and death in humans and other animals. Typically, the term is used when referring to molds.

Note to whoever it helps: Also contrast the terms microfungi and macrofungi. The macrofungi are those that produce the easily visible fruiting bodies such as mushrooms, puffballs, polypores and so on - while the microfungi are the molds, plant rusts, smuts, mildews and so on.

I'll take a hint. Is it also not found in Lentinula edodes or Pleurotus ostreaus?

Neither shiitake nor oysters.  Hint: it is another wood-inhabiting species, and an Asian favorite.

:super:

This next one has been under-investigated and literature appears to be scarce.

To make this one a bit easier, and to welcome everyone, here's an image of the species of fungi it was extracted from:

Please list the chemical name and the species of fungi. Tell us what disease it is known to fight.

I think the mushroom is Fomitopsis officinalis

I am still struggling with the chemistry side of things but is it 6-chloro-4-phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one?

If so it is being tested to fight against Tuberculosis from what I could ascertain.

This compound is considered to be cytotoxic, and is found in an ascomycota.
