PF cakes and water weight

Yo, So after a few years of doing PF TEK, I have become quite detailed in my research. This past year I've had problems with waterlogged cakes/cakes drying out, and have began weighing my 1/2 pint cakes before dunking, after a 24 hour dunk, post flush, etc. These numbers are fairly consistent for me, some of you might find this interesting. -After 4-6 weeks of colonizing, my cakes weigh between 60-75 grams. -A brief rinse adds 5-10 grams in weight -A 24 hour dunk results in cakes gaining 25-30 grams in weight. My cakes are almost always 70 grams at birth, and 100 grams after the dunk. -Post flush results in the cake returning to near pre 1st dunk, regardless of size/weight of flush, though often the weight of the flush is the exact difference in weight.
But a 24 hour 2nd dunk after the first flush does not get me back to the 100 gram mark, usually around 85-90. Should we assume that the 2nd flush would initially benefit from a longer dunk to reach said weight? OR should we assume for some reason that the cake cannot hold anymore water at this point, for whatever reason? I think this is cool info, what do you all think?

I think it's good info to have and study.. But for the reason to why the cakes are losing their water weight potential is probably because the mycelium is even more consolidated than when you first dunked, less room for water to absorb, less nutrients in the cake, things just become used up inside the cakes and it effects their potential to hold water is my guess.

The difference in weight between first and second dunk is the loss in nutrients, so no matter how long you dunk it its impossible to get back to the original weight Unless the cake wasnt fully saturated after the first dunk

That makes sense Eclipse. Interesting and good to know Thoraxx. I'm trying to figure out initial dunk times for 2nd and 3d flushes, I usually stop after 2 or 3 flushes. I read "pick fruits, let cakes sit a day or two, re-dunk 12-24 hours", or "If they feel light, dunk again, if they feel heavy, they are waterlogged, dry them out a bit...". I just removed 2 cakes that got about a 28 hour dunk, weigh about 92g, they feel a bit soft as my cakes sometimes do after the 2nd dunk. I dunno..Thanks guys.
