Nice one raceme
A small hint might help others get it.

Ok. Hint: it's a mycotoxin that can be deadly, and it's not found in Amanitas.

That would be orellanine which is found in some Cortinarius species. It is thought to interrupt certain chemical reactions in the body and causes kidney failure if left untreated.

It is Orellanine, found in the Cortinarius species C. orellanus and C. rubellus.
It destroys cells in the kidneys tubules, which lead to renal failure and subsequent illness and death.
Edit: ninja beat me.

Congrats on 500 posts!

Give us the common name, the IUPAC nomenclature , in which mushroom this is found, and why this chemical is the focus of research.

I believe it has been shown to chelate with a few metal ions like sodium and calcium.

Nay, sir. Right mushroom, wrong chemical. I mentioned earlier that this chemical is the opposite of poisonous.

Antamanide?
IUPAC name: (9S,12R,15S,18S,30S,33R,36S,39S)-9,12,33,36-tetrabenzyl-15-methyl-30-(propan-2-yl)-1,7,10,13,16,22,28,31,34,37-decaazapentacyclo[37.3.0.03,7.018,22.024,28]dotetracontane-2,8,11,14,17,23,29,32,35,38-decone
Species found in: Amanita phalloides
Research Potential: Antamanide is a cyclic decapeptide isolated from a fungus, the death cap: Amanita phalloides. It is being studied as a potential anti-toxin against the effects of phalloidin and for its potential for treating edema. It contains 1 valine residue, 4 proline residues, 1 alanine residue, and 3 phenylalanine residues with a structure of c(Val-Pro-Pro-Ala-Phe-Phe-Pro-Pro-Phe-Phe). It was isolated by determining the source of the anti-phalloidin activity from a lipophillic extraction from the organism. It has been shown that antamanide can react to form alkali metal ion complexes. These include complexes with sodium and calcium ions. When these complexes are formed, the cyclopeptide structure undergoes a conformational change.

Alright! Here's the next one:
I'm thinking of a "genus" of atoms. Name the atom.

This atom is considered the elemental basis of all life on Earth. Share a statistical fact to support this belief/fact.
This atom is known as an "element" and as a "chemical element." Btw, elements are divided into metals, metalloids, and non-metals.
Pick a specific species of mushroom and tell us one thing about this chemical element that is totally cool. Link it up with the supporting literature.

Is the number of electrons shown in that picture equal to the total number of electrons that the element in question has in it's neutral state?
