Just for Fun The In-vitro grain jar

Well I left one grain jar with the lid slightly loosened after full colonization just to see how long it would take to pin in-vitro. This one took two weeks. I'm thinking of putting it in the SGFC but right now I have the lid-ring holding on a single layer of paper towel and I give it a little water every day.

It would likely pin faster and more with a little casing layer inside. It also can be watered after it shrinks some. Though it would be better if the grain were about half as high loaded.

I did it for the glam not the yield. But I'm sure you're right. I'm not too interested in doing this ever again, I really just wanted to see how long it would take for a regular grain jar to say fuck this I'm doing my thing even if you don't want to pay attention to me,

Gotcha. But it actually works very well as a singular grow method. I did it with glass lots before discovering how much better and easier it was with plastic and their screw-on lids.
Surprisingly I find that casing layers can decrease the time until pinning. Sortof as if the fruits delay because they want a low-nutrition pinning site, as they already have saturation humidity throughout. Yep, I'm referring to dropping in a casing layer into a light-loaded container. I'll also be doing a larger experiment/demo with it.
Try it sometime! Super easy

Wouldn't it be easier just pour the grains very shallowly into a tub and then put a small casing layer on it then put the lid back on and fruit it like it's in colonization then? It's like having a bunch of your in-vitro plastics in a big in-vitro plastic.

No, it would Not be easier. One would already be preparing and laying casing layer; your idea involves a cleaned tub, breaking up and laying out grains, and a recovery period before the casing layer is colonized, by a culture which is sortof brand-new, the mycelium that was embedded in the surface of the grains having to re-start the life cycle from scratch. The straight-grains just simply don't knit back together the same either. And it's simply unnecessary to destroy the original ideal growth on grains, particularly just to put one's eggs all in one basket that all must be tossed at once when contams occur, which becomes more likely or sooner due to the less healthy mycelium. Additionally, such a giant thing would have watering problems. The edges near the water would be too far from the majority of the substrate in the middle. Especially considering that conditions may be more difficult to maintain as well, particularly seeing as I NEVER have to mist my invitros. It's way easy and very assured success.

So, I'm posting a topic tonight with pics of my crazy invitro experiment. Got pins and shrooms all over it. I had some grains left over after g2g, threw some dry verm, and some water, shook and let sir around with a lid and sfd on. Looked at it couple days ago and bam! Fruits.

Casing layer! It's like magic for that stuff. I think they don't like pinning on straight grains as much as with a low-nutrition site. I wouldn't be surprised if that jar would have fruited in the same setup except with a casing. Maybe it would need more air though.

lol yeah i was inbetween fishing trips, had i known i could just nuke some potting soil i may have tried lol. but i mainly wanted to see y ambient lighting is always recommended and not direct and intense and the ambient lighting for sure gave a different growth then the direct, i have pics somewhere of it i had the first week in total darkness the second week 12/12 with ambient lighting and week 3 and right to 4 months on direct intense, was pretty neat to see the different effects of lighting on colonizing grain jars(i never shook the jar once) and had i not fucked the first flush up it would have gotten me well over a couple z's still

I have not, I watered them until I got slight pooling at the bottom, and then I tried to roll it around gently to distribute it evenly, I gave it a little bit of a misting today.
