Approximately what is your success rate?
Just curious.
I've never hunted but I do hike a lot and I keep my eye open and ever since I started that, I've found out that (normal) mushrooms really are everywhere. I mean all kinds, they're pretty fascinating actually and strange. I love it. I may go hunting this season.

Look into the mushroom hunting info here on the shroomery. Some good info and their bare basics. I'd love to go hunting because I'm going to be able to afford to drive very soon and probably go to northern cali to camp, drink and trip in a beautiful place. Then take a few days for some hunting.

I've gone twice. Once, 300 grams wet. Second time, 90 grams wet. First time I was a noob and didn't try them so the molded. Second time I dryed out to 9 grams opened some minds.

In all honesty, Greymorph, it depends on a lot of factors. I see that you are in NC and depending on where in the state you are... East or West..will determine what to look for. I don't think you'll find any cubes that far north but you may find some gymnopilus in the mountains and maybe even some ovoids or caueralupes in the western portion. There are always pan cincts in almost every state that can be found throughout the spring and summer.
Just pay attention to the hunting and ID thread and listen use the search function.

this will tell you what to look for in your state, but you will need to know the times of year and more specific info that TI's will talk about. It is forbidden to give away actual locations but you can garner general habitat info and such that will help you immensely.
It took me 2 years of searching to find some ovoids ....I now have a renewable and somewhat reliable source of very potent mushrooms..(much stronger than the cubes I've grown). If you do alot of hiking, like me, then you are more than halfway there. :goodluck

Success rate is high if you do your homework and put in the time searching. I went hunting for the first time last year and I eventually found my ovoids. I think I was probably out for a combined 12 hours or more searching before I stumbled upon them. And I'm really glad I did, ovoids are the best!

I think that's awesome and I'm glad we have such a high success around here.
Baltimark, I've looked occasionally but never really TRIED hunting and I do LOVE to hike. I may actually start looking next time. I have done research a while back and I know what grows in the area and all that and what season they grow. Like I said, I've looked but not really SEARCHED.
As for where I live, I'm very near to the borders of where TN and GA meet NC. I live in the foothills of the mountains. If I remember correctly, mushroom season is in September. I should have searched this year because the amount of rain we got was ridiculous.

Well.. I live in PA so not quite the same area. I don't think you will find ovoids that far south tbh. I think your best bet is to look for cincts or plan a road trip.

GreyMorph, I'm actually in a very similar situation. I hike a lot, and have started noticing all kinds of mushrooms growing in the woods.
This thread has inspired me a little, I think I might do some research for the next season!
