Using colonized cpoo as "spawn" (Pan cyans)
    #19397319 - 01/10/14 04:54 AM (10 years, 21 days ago)

I have a tray of pure cpoo that's 95%-100% colonized with Pan Cyanescens myc.

It was more of an experiment than anything, but now that colonization is almost complete, I am thinking that one tray is not worth the trouble of fruiting on its lonesome.

Can I use the colonized cpoo as "spawn" for other trays?  My limited experience is that Pan Cyanescens myc is very delicate and sometimes when it gets bruised, doesn't recover, so maybe I shouldn't try to get more than one more tray out of this one (ie I should use a generous spawn ratio).  Or maybe it isn't a good idea at all, because the myc will suffer too much damage from my breaking up the cpoo compared to traditional spawn materials like grain and grass seed.

No.  Pasteurized substrates still contain many contaminants.  If you use them as spawn, you put these contaminants into new, uncolonized substrate where they take off and grow.  We use grain to grain transfers because the grain is sterilized.
