There are plenty of well-documented things you can do to increase your metabolism.
No snake oil (though, fish oil helps) or pseudoscience involved.

DHA and EPA, found in fish oils, have a drastic effect on the metabolism. Maintaining an exercise routine will increase your metabolism.
Basically you want to train your body to stay active and to effectively utilize the fuel you give it. You also want to put good fuel into your body.

sVs  you left this out Ephedrine caffeine and aspirin. But the fuckin methheads got the ephedrine thing fucked up!:brushrage: Oh and there is cordyceps Gotta bring the fungus into the Shroomery.

I'm not particularly fond of caffeine, and if we're going to talk stimulants I'd like to introduce you to amphetamines.
Plus, I'd rather advocate taking a more natural approach to maintaining a healthy metabolism. I've seen plenty of people take the amphetamine diet and end up rebounding. Hard.

Nothing pays off like honest work, when it comes to self-improvement.

Favorite one I've been to so far was El Celler de Can Roca in Girona.
I'd love to take a trip to Tokyo and just spend like, a week, eating.

Different regions of Japan have the best food.

So like Kyoto is best known for their Japanese food. Washoku, udon, things like that, you go to Kyoto. For sushi and seafood, Hokkaido is the best place. Okinawa is the most famous for their black-belly pork.

Believe it or not, one thing that the Japanese do better is French. They say French are the masters of creme sauces, well the Japanese actually found a way to make it even tastier. It's expensive though, and the portions are so tiny, you will pay close to $300 and you will still be hungry after you leave.

I forgot to add, Kyoto has the best mochi. You will find it sold outside of temples, and it will literally be hand-made (which takes days of pounding the rice with mallots to make). The best ones have little bits of broken up rice grains inside the mochi.

I'm all about the seafood. I also do enjoy French cuisine, and that is rather interesting that the Japanese have raised the bar for it.
They've also recently taken to distilling Scotch-style single-malt whiskies, though they can't call it Scotch for obvious and legal reasons. Those, too, are of exceptional quality (though I'll still swear by my Islay malts before I pick up a bottle of Japanese whisky ).

IMO booze is not good at all in Japan, with the exception of sake and shochu. Beer is downright terrible (like Asahi/Kirin/Sapporo type Budweiser shit), and so is wine. The Japanese do not know how to properly store or prepare wine, so it always tastes too acidic and sour. The problem is the climate is really not good for storing wines. I don't know about Scotch though, as I do not drink liquor, so I wouldn't be able to judge it.

The best French food I've ever eaten was not that week that I spent in Paris, it was in the weeks I spent in Tokyo.

I've made the mistake of trying various Asian macrobrews. Thoroughly unimpressed every time.
Pretty bad when I'd consider most of our domestic macros to have the edge on them.

Fortunately beer is one of the things I don't need to look much farther than a supermarket for good quality, in Oregon.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with Oregon beers, but I could send you a massive list of things you need to try at some point in your life. And if I ever get around to it and you have enough interest, I could probably send you a sampler someday down the road.

I would love that. I am a huge fan of beer, I love it the most, I simply do not drink it very often because it interferes with my bodybuilding. I only have about 10 beers every year, but if it were up to me I would drink beer every week.

I'm a huge fan of hefeweizen's and porter's and stout's the most. A mildly sweet, fruit-tasting wheat-beer, or a rich porter that tastes like black coffee is the kind of beer that's right up my alley.

Yea Asian macro brews are ridiculously lame, it's basically like Budweiser, Coors type shit. That's why I really really wanted to start a gourmet beer bar in Tokyo... but my parents say that Japanese people would not appreciate good beer. Just like how American people do not understand the difference between good sake and bad sake, Japanese people do not know how to appreciate good wine vs bad wine.

To Japanese people, they don't drink for the taste, they drink to get drunk. And since you would have to make gourmet beer really expensive in Japan (like at least $8 a glass) over there, nobody would buy it, they say.

Sweet, I'll get to work putting together a "best of" sampler one day down the road. We really have insane variety, doing a good job with everything from IPAs to stouts, porters, hefes, imperial IPA, you name it.
Ninkasi and Deschutes really steal the show in most categories, but we've also got Widmer's, Rogue, Bridgeport, Full Sail, Boneyard, Cascade Lakes, etc.

Hell, most Americans still don't understand how to distinguish between good beverages and not-good beverages. We've only hit our beer renaissance as of late, but we are doing a damn fine job it seems.
There are almost no noteworthy distillers in the States, which makes me quite sad. Most of our whiskey is bourbon or rye, which I find uninteresting, one-dimensional, and boring.
Fortunately, other areas of the world rise admirably to that challenge. I think I could die happy (of liver failure) in Scotland.

Out of that list I've only had Widmer's. Widmer's is pretty good, but my favorite is Karl Strauss' hefeweizen and porter as far as American goes. For foreign ales, I like Belgium's "Gouden Carolus" and "Duchesse de Bourgogne." Duchesse is a dessert beer, very sweet, and Gouden Carolus has a subtle hint of lychee in it. I strongly recommend it if you ever run in to either of those.

I have to drive to a specialty shop to find it anywhere though. And the same brand still doesn't taste as good in America, because American automatically pasteurize anything that's imported into this country.

That's true. That also applies to cakes. I remember that I never ever liked eating American cakes, even as a kid, cause it was like all processed and too sweet. Japanese cakes and French bakeries and Whole Foods type cakes are booming now though.

Sushi is booming, but I feel like American people still don't really know how to eat sushi. They think grated wasabi is too spicy because they are too used to the horseradish substitute. And I also noticed American restaurants serve sushi rice refrigerated and cold. But actually it is supposed to be room temperature. I'm a bit of a sushi snob, and real traditional sushi is becoming a dying art form even in Japan.

?

:tongue2:

There's quite a bit of small-batch malt whisky being made in Japan and of course a great market for scotch there. Beer might well catch on, we have to hope :tongue2: Although, it's pretty moot to me anyways; better  here (US) than anywhere else :toast:

@crystal G
Safe to say you'll love anything that says "coffee stout" You're welcome to one of these Founders Breakfast Stouts  I do like them, but much more sparingly than drier stouts and old ales/scotch ales. And I drink mostly IPAs and Hoppy Reds, but that just means more for you :tongue2: I'm a big fan of really dry and earthy imperial stouts

:toast:

Deschutes' Obsidian Stout.

The stout by which I currently judge all other stouts.

Not to brag, but the best porter/stouts come from MI
Founders Breakfast and Imperial, Kentucky Breakfast Stout and Canadian Breakfast stout

Wait, what doees microbrews have to do with obesity?

Anyway, you wanna be obese? Heres 3 easy steps:

Step 1) Aquire a bunch of money and quit your job.

Step 2) Get a landline phone with a current phone book

Step 3) Order take-out delievered to you for every meal and never leave your house.

Step 4) Live this way for 5 years.

Congrats! You're obese.

You're Welcome
