You can only birth them one way...upside down...unless you have a zero gravity room...in which case, take lots of pics!!! lol

The taller jars (when uncontaminated) usually slow down when they get to the bottom of the jar because the sub compacts from all the movement.  I would never flip my jars, no matter what.  You should never disturb that dry verm layer...I'd rather take a piss in the GE holes than turn them upside down.  I'm not saying they won't contaminate with piss, i'm just saying.

you can flip them, but only once.
it can help the bottom part colonize by giving it some more headroom.
they stall because water draws down by gravity, and gravity compressing the sub.
