flipped stalled brf jars, birthing

If you flip stalled brf jars, do you birth them bottom up? I hope i asked this right. I just read somewhere when your jars fully colonize you want to birth them right side up how they were when they colonized.

Hm, I've never heard/read that. Do you happen to remember where it was?
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by stalled; in this case, anyway. Usually when you say stalled, I'm pretty sure it means that the myc has stopped growing altogether, but that wouldn't be the case if the cakes are colonized.
I can't say I've ever heard of doing it differently based on how the cakes were oriented when colonizing. I only know of birthing them "lid side" down.

If it's stalled it's contaminated. Pics please. Don't flip it, that's stupid in any case. You shouldn't mess with it until it's 100% colonized, consolidated for a week, and hopefully invetro pinning.

well, they are not fully colonized yet, thats why i flipped them. I couldn't find where i read that but looked through RRs notes and apparently it doesn't matter, and he prefers lid down. I guess i thought the mycelium would prefer to be right side up considering it colonized that way during the 3 weeks or however long it took. Maybe i am over thinking again lol

It didnt stop completely, just colonizing really slow. I read rr notes
Non-contaminated cakes really only stall out if you leave the inoculation/gas exchange holes taped up with non-breathing tape, or make the jars too wet. However, for the latter, it's OK to flip them, but you MUST leave them flipped until they finish. If you disturb the verm filter, leave it that way. If you flip them back to right-side-up, you put contaminated parts of the verm against the substrate. RR
so i figured this was a reliable source

When RR says lid flipped down he is talking about when you are closing the lid. Not flipping the jar around so the cake is sitting on the lid... And like I said if the jar has stalled, flipping it isn't going to do shit to help, it's just going to hurt you more.

damn ha...well i lost 20 out of 24 jars because i didn't use a glove box, ordered a B+ syringe and im going to rye berries. There is so much info on here that it tends to get confusing... but thanks to everyones help im getting a clearer picture and i feel confident this next go around. Def no more flipping. thank you

It's not the end of the world, honestly it might come out fine. It doesn't look like it's stalled just going slow.

Also I wouldn't go straight to rye with a syringe.
Grow some cakes.
Get some fruits.
Transfer some fruits to clone on agar.
Isolate strong strains.
Use those isolates for master grain jars.
Then use those master grain jars to make tons more.
Then do whatever you want with spawn.
Back to original subject though, glove boxes are meh, use a still air box instead.
Now that those jars are flipped leave em be and let em grow see what happens.
There's nothing else you see growing in there right? I can't see anything other then myc, it's just slow bro.

what's the timeframe on these? You need patience dude. you've got the wrong kind of jars, that might be a reason they stalled.

i guess i do have a still air, it doesnt have gloves attached, and i dont see anything..lost 4 jars to trich before, and the others didnt do anything. What do you think about using a syringe for agar? Im getting agar and y plate petri dishes when i get my rye and gypsum...

The jars have nothing to do with stalling, that's just silly. Unless they were like ridiculously huge or something. Those look fine.
As for syringe to agar, no. I tried it on multiple types of agar, it's just not as successful as PF tek with syringe. If anything buy a spore print not a syringe if you want to go straight to agar.

3,5 weeks after inoc? That's not especially long, sometimes my jars take over 2 weeks just to germinate. I just guessed you were impatient because you had flipped a jar that's just showing a coin-sized piece of growth.

Just pick a name you like, a cube is a cube. There's a strain thread dedicated to the discussion of varieties of cubes if you are interested.
