Coming to terms with pupping * 1
    #19393701 - 01/09/14 01:22 PM (10 years, 21 days ago)

All of my trichocereus have manic pupping.  Theories range from narnia bugs causing it to MiracleGro to intense 120 degree summers.  I no longer give a fuck.  Let them pup like retards, I don't need long neat columns of cactus.  I'll enjoy this fucking mess.

I do have a new theory though:  All of this pupping protects the cactus from flopping over.  I've had a few dozen larger columns fall over during cold, rainstorms.  Pupping slows down the ungodly fast growth that my cactus experiences.

These bottom two pictures were recently trimmed.  I pulled off about a dozen feet worth of pups.

AND NO EMAILS ABOUT BUYING/SELLING/DONATING CUTTINGS, YOU DAMN HEBREWS!

I got too much cuzco back there.  Nothing grows like that shit though.  You think the first three pics are cuzco?  Picture 5 is the only one that I'm sure of.

Yeah the first pic looks identical to the cuzco I got that was sold as "peruvian'

Is cuzco the same as kk242?

I don't believe that Cuzco is the same as KK242. My KK242 that I got from ferrel is almost twice as wide as those BBB supposed "peruvian" they are selling that most of the community believes is actually Cuzcoensis.

Vendors usually sell new growth tip cuttings from motherplants that get chopped on the regular. Pups from these are generally skinnier. Could be that yours is from a mature plant or a cutting allowed to fatten up?

Agree with picture 1 being cuzco.

I've got a real kk242 peruvianus (not cuzco) and it is pretty different from those first photos.  Very glaucus, different aureole spacing/color,  spination is somewhat similar.  I would be interested in seeing a top down photo of a kk242 cuzco.

Because I am dying to see what this looks like in 4 - 5 years

This was labeled a kk242 that I put in the ground.  Then the tip started to rot.  I cut the rotted part off.  It then grew a nice foot long column from the top.  Real beauty.  But then that column started to rot at the tip.  And then it fell over.

Here is the tip that rotted and then toppled over.  Note the glaucus that was not so apparent on the mother plant.

Or maybe I'm all confused about the name and maybe the cutting in the second picture is from another cactus in my yard.  I can't keep track, but that's the narrative I'm sticking with.

You can sleep in one of the tents:

Applesmasher, if I ever try to sell the house I'll have a hard time with this screwball backyard.  What family would want to move into this warzone of dangerous spines?  I guess if I decide to move to a climate where the cactus can thrive, I'd hire some Mexicans to dig all the shit out and transport it to my new home.  If I move somewhere not conducive to cactus, I'd have to cut everything at the base, cover the bases with rocks and plant a few trees and shrubs.  It will have been a tremendous waste of time, energy, and money.  Hopefully I'll stay here forever and watch my cactus garden grow into colossal proportions.  My final resting place will be among the bridgesii.

And then in a century some scumbag on fleabay will be selling "genuine cactus from the real JoeMolloy's backyard."  I'll be a legend by then and even my cuzcoensis will fetch top dollar.

Yeah, melted wax.  Some of my older bridgesii occasionally get freaky looking.

There are a few reasons why it will never happen
1 : You haven't met my wife
2 : You haven't met my wife
3 : You haven't met my wife
4 : You haven't met my wife
5 : You haven't met my wife
6 : My wife is a redhead

Seriously I would love to be able to do and grow what ever I want and were I want on my own ( and the banks ) property. But I have to be realistic and bow to to what the lawmakers, thieving scumbags force me to do and to also do the right thing by my wife and family.
We only put a fence up for some privacy and to keep the kids and dog in and teenage boys out as our outlook from two sides of our property is over parkland / open space.
My cacti collection and plant oddities are banished to one corner of the property our "real garden" is not quite desert landscape.

Sorry for the derail Joe.
Is that terminating growth still happening ? I still think damage to the growth tip as our temps can be a bit extreme as well ( 45 C tomorrow ) and I used full strength MG general purpose fertz for 3 years on my Trichs without any issues.

Cheers
Got

I think you should send me a nice log so I can plant it and test if it exhibits this weird growing behaviour in the Netherlands as well.
