Update
Prepping some more totes for the transfer.
In case you forgot, I am using Alder chips and a finer mix of alder, maple and birch. Soaking for 24hrs.

Its spring so the arborists are payed to prune around power lines. They chip everything nowadays often dumping chips as they go. Ask if they can dump in your driveway.

Your local landfill should have an abundance of usable wood chips/shavings that will work for you. If you are really having trouble finding them, you could purchase them online if you wish(Alder, high quality, mushroom specific, very nice chips) you can get 60 pounds for 80 bucks. But I would use this only as a last resort as they can be found for cheaper, better yet, free..
Stay away from resinous woods such as pine it will inhibit growth of mycelium.

Even if you don't dry it out?
I know that it can work, esp if it's dried and aged but fresh does have some resinous content. But I would avoid it personally, other hardwoods are much more suitable.

In Australia P subs are known from Pine chips. You wont find any difference from them and azures. Well maybe azures could be even more vigorous.

Beautiful day today here in the PNW!
Hope Y'all's wood lovers are coming along nicely!
Allenii jars are coming along, so I should be able to start a small patch for this fall!
Picking some outdoor bed spots.. I've posted these before but now I think these will be the spots I will use. Can't wait! There's a nice mix of shady and natural wood chips in these areas.. Really great spots!

Update P. Azurescens spawn transfer
How you guys doin!
Made 2 new totes with 1:10 spawn/substrate ratio again. Soaked for 24 hours and leached of excess water.. Alder chips/fine mix of alder, birch, maple.
Will be moving to the GREAT outdoors once these colonize up!!
(Leeched substrate for 1 hour, ready to add spawn)

(Breaking up the Azurescens spawn & adding it to fresh substrate)

(Threw some spawn on top.. nice and white)

(Mixed up the spawn VERY thoroughly in both totes! Threw a black plastic garbage liner on top, so the mycelium is still able to breathe, and colonization awaits...)

Got some left over spawn, any suggestions what I should do with it? I am trying to think of something unique, should I keep this rolling and maybe plant into the a remote location in the wilderness, try to fruit some indoors?( )need suggestions!
