I bought some Azures and Cyan spores last monday night and waiting for them to come. I will post pictures of my outdoor setup (yall will love it) but had a couple questions.
Should I mix my patches of azures and cyans in the same place or should I have them be in separate wood patches?
My plan is to make ether a Birdseed cake tek or a popcorn tek with the spores. When the cakes are fully colonized I will dump the cakes on thin straw bed with cardboard underneath. I will place all the douglass fir branchs that I trimmed around the patch and put them on top and add 3 inches of chips and add another layer of cakes and do a inch layer of 50/50 chips and coffee compost mix. After that ill add about another 2 inches of chips to top it all off. I live in the pacific northwest so I hope we can have similar results!

I personally make 100 jars of grain spawn and mix with one yard of chips and lay in a 12'x12'x8" bed. Cover with a 2" chip/soil mix and spread fern seeds, then cover lightly with straw until the ferns come in. If I can I make the bed on a slight slope for drainage. I average ~1300 grams dried from each bed.
The following season I use about 20-50 jars of spawn and add more chips to maintain the patch height.
Use slug traps ALL season. Watery beer in a buried (to the rim) jar every 3' works great for me
I'm building two new ones this year and will post the build and later results here, both allenii

Ill post everything for my patch in this thread, since we are doing the exact same thing I don't see why we shouldn't just combine powers and not waste space on the board.
In response to willsolvem, I don't want to plant ferns on my patch since I actually just cleared all the natural foliage off! It was necessary for my operation that ill post pictures of tomorrow but I also wanted a nice clear space for my mushrooms to grow and for me to easily pick without things being in the way. (so basically why should i plant ferns on my patch?)

I plant them to help retain moisture, I don't like grasses as they have a thicker more elaborate root structures that I feel inhibit more than aide. When doing a 140 square foot bed like myself you'll find a need to retain moisture. I like ferns because they provide allot of cover and aeration for what little plant matter they are composed of and will thrive under a canopy of large trees, and animals don't seek them out to eat them very often.
Like I said, it's what I personally do, it's not a rule.

Strawberries work well and provide a good cover for watering your patch.

Theres a link in my signature for that project, unfortunately alot of the pictures I deleted due to upload limits.
Goodluck to everybody attempting a grow in this thread. Looking forward to seeing some positive results.

Looks great! Moisture wise I think my place will be fine but planting strawberries in there sounds fun to me! Although that would increase deer and other animals getting into my patch I expect. Will I have to wait till fall to expect fruits?

Yeah separate patches would be nice. As long as your patch is fully colonized you show see fruit in fall/winter. If you don't have enough spawn to colonize everything by fall then it could take until the 2nd year. You could bury a fully colonized block instead of spreading it around and you should get fruits atleast above the block.
