How Your Sense of Humor Changes After Living in The Ghetto

So, while I was in university, I was living in THE MOST ghetto part of Long Beach. I now live in a completely opposite suburban yuppie type place now, but I feel like my past experience living in the ghetto has completely changed my sense of humor.
Recently, I saw a bunch of black movies, including the movie "Friday," and I realized just how fucking funny it was!!!! It's like I finally get all the jokes now, because I've literally met all those different kinds of black people portrayed while living in the hood. When I originally saw it years ago, I thought movies like that were racist and stereotypical and not funny. It wasn't until I lived in Long Beach that I realized, "Holy shit, this movie is really fucking funny."
I also just saw "If Belle from Beauty and the Beast Lived in the Ghetto," and I just about DIED LAUGHING. I swear to god, I have literally met every single one of those people while living in the ghetto! Especially those black guys talking about booty and asking for digits
What do you guys think, do you guys think this video is funny, even though it may or may not relate to you?

Believe it or not, much of the ghettoness you've experienced since Friday came out may have been at least partially inspired by Friday.

I thought it was funny and i'm from middle upper class, never lived anywhere in a ghetto or near lots of african americans (i mean those as two totally separate things because crystal quoted the movie Friday which features black actors)

I do work with the homeless though. i notice a lot of the same characters too

I thought you were from New Zealand? The only reason I mention that is because a lot of Europeans and foreigners don't understand black humor, or why Americans consider it funny.
Like I've showed a lot of "black guy" humor to my European friends, and they don't really find it funny. But they'll show me videos of "chavs," which is basically what they consider white trash in England, and they will find it hysterical but I won't really find it all that funny.

Trivializing the plight of impoverished minorities for a few quick laughs. So funny. just kidding, laugh at them all you'd like.

No, that's not what's funny. It's the characters that they portray. You literally find every single one of them in the ghetto. You appreciate it on a whole different perspective when you see a character on TV and you go, "HOLY SHIT I met so and so at this corner"

I really don't give a shit about the movie. Regardless, it was simply dull and uninteresting like most comedy.

Well, not "racist" I guess, but it seemed more like it was making fun of black people than anything.
But now that I've met these actual characters in the ghetto, I appreciate this humor on a whole different level now.

I didn't think it was funny; possibly and probably because it didn't relate to me.

friday was hilarious
you dont need to be black to think its funny
so the only movies you enjoy are the ones who directly "relate" to you?

I loved Friday actually... all three, and I'm patiently waiting for the 4th movie.
For the video crystal posted originally, perhaps I didn't like it too much because it was a musical... I don't find comedy musicals very funny, on top of the fact I might have missed a couple jokes.

It might help you to get it, if you compare it with the original Beauty and the Beast excerpt:
Watch this one first, and then watch the video I posted right after that. HILARIOUS!!!

I agree that perspective play a big part in what we find amusing. If you can't relate to what someone is saying, then how could you "Get it"?
I think it is admirable to be able to switch levels, and not necessarily consider one better than the next, just different.

The level switching is probably directly correlated to diversity. Which W.S. would say we should embrace, and I agree.
