godzilla pod
    #19388362 - 01/08/14 02:07 PM (10 years, 22 days ago)

How long before I can harvest the seedz? I saw it today on inspection of my plants. I just dont want to be too quick to harvest. It should yield quite a bit of seed as I crossed them with my ariocarpus fissuratus.

I plan to give them away to people on here anyways. They all flowered I  sync so I was quick to cross pollinate. Last year I grew a bunch of seedlings. Then my stupididty bit my ass and the rain washed them away.:huxleyfacepalm:

Ferrel you are the one that actually got me interested in ariocarpus so I have to say . I hadn't really given them much thought in the past until I saw you posting some on here.  Can't wait until this next grow season when the few I have throw some flowers out so I can do some crosses of my own.  I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of doing crosses and grafts.  Should have plenty of diversity to play with once those seeds start popping.

That pod looks like it could be ready any day now but don't take my word for it.  I'm certainly no expert.  If it isn't loose at all when tugging on it, it's probably not ready just yet.

I think as soon as the seeds are black they will be good but its gonna take alot of will power not to fuck with that seed pod.

I don't think I can help you there. I would probably wait for the pod to go limp, then try to pull it, holding it with tweezers as close to the body as possible. If it won't come easy, wait another week or so. But that's just what I would do...

This is exactly how I do it every time I pull fruit.  It comes out completely intact.  Good advice LS.

They sell "bridal netting" or some shit like that at all major fabric stores, its like stuff that is on the veil.  I know soil not women's clothing

A piece of that, some stiff wire, and a few zip ties and you've got got yourself a bit more protection.  I am not sure how much more of this information I can release upon you guys before ARMAGEDDON.

You know as mad as I get at all the pests that make our gardening lives a little harder,I can never bring myself to kill any of them.I had some huge Tomato worms almost destroy all my tomatoes last season, but I hunted them all down, and relocated them away from my plants. They are just too beautiful to destroy:biggrin:

Seriously, I don't know where I'm getting this stuff.  It's like I'm channeling some Higher Power.

What if we figured out a way to have those guys do some weed control/bio remediation, once they were nice and fat... feed them to chickens!  Harvest the eggs, and the chicken when necessary.  Just because I'm a hippy with dreadlocks and sandals doesn't mean I don't enjoy meat on occasion. OR eat the grub
