http:// hello all this is my first post. i have been growing cubensis for around two years now with a 90% success rate use ing the brf tek. im now trying to up my game buy using rye grain but seem to keep getting contams. my pc is too small for my unicorn bags as they touch the sides and melt. so i ask if i was to sterilize my grain in jars then transfer the grain wile still boiling hot to the filter bags would the heat help keep things sterile? any and all opinions are needed thanks.

They should melt just from touching the sides. Maybe you just got crappy bags. You could trying putting something between them and the edge to help create a gap between them and the edge.
To answer your question, you'd think it would help keep things sterile since some contaminants may die on contact with high temperatures but heat also creates air currents. Aa the warm air moves out it pulls cool potentially contaminated air in so I would advise against it.
Are you using a gas stove?

It may help to use a lower setting to heat the PC up. It'll take longer to reach boiling point but the metal won't heat up as much in the process. Some of those gas stoves can put out a lot of heat at once and despite the water absorbing most of that energy the metal still reaches particularly high temperatures.

i think you should work on getting a bigger PC, you might try filling and folding the bag in such a way that the sides do not touch the metal?

I think this will really change things for you. I use a lot of bags in a PC and have never had a single one melt.
I heat mine slowly. I make sure that the weight is not releasing steam very often. A few times a minute.
OP, am I wrong to assume that your weight is going crazy releasing steam all the time when you use your PC?

Those jars fail you because of the syringe filters. Use felt or synthetic filter disks instead and they will do fine.
