no one is claiming that harm wasnt done to the environment by the industrial revolution but now there are checks in place to help mitigate that damage but let's also face a few other facts, even in undeveloped countries, environmental damage is being done by the inhabitants, for hundreds of years the ganges river has been polluted because it's not only a source of water but it's also the laundromat, the sanitation department and the sewage system for tens of millions of people and it's been that way for centuries
yea, so how is it inconceivable that in a globalized economy that we have the potential to completely destroy a global ecosystem?

Wrong again.
Several have pointed out the flaws in the studies quoted. Several have pointed out that none of the models came to pass. Several have pointed out the dogma associated with the gloom-and-doomers.
I don't know or claim to know how accurate some of this stuff is. What I do know is that many have made up their minds based on... shit.
Deep stinky shit.

Right. Because 97% of 77 is such a huge number that we should all panic.

Right, so we should disregard the climate scientists that say differently.
We should always listen to so few when so much is at stake.

Nope. What I'm saying is the much ballyhooed consensus doesn't mean shit.
There are far more than 3% who disagree. That number is wrong for the same reason the 97% number is wrong. 77 answers from 10000+ surveys is a dumb fucking reason to panic as so many seem to be doing.
We need to know a good deal more about our planet before taking actions that will damage the economy.

but i think it prudent to refrain from destructive practices like exploitation of oil sands and fracking until--as you say, we know more about them

people can get like that for any opinion that they hold dear--not just in response to climate change--shouldn't really be a factor towards the validity of climate change or not

People can and do. It shouldn't be a factor towards the validity of climate change.
There is evidence to support both sides. We don't know. Taking actions based on what we don't know is incredibly stupid.
The earth warms, the earth cools. Until we understand the causes way better than we do now, Chicken Little needs to go hide his or her head in the sand.

Wouldn't surprise me either way. We don't know just what the consequences are or how severe they may be, or if there even are any.
Until we do, the doom-and-gloomers are just noise.

than, as i stated earlier, if you are so concerned with knowing the consequences before acting, you must be opposed to things like fracking and oil sand exploitation--at least until we better understand the long term effects, no?

I dislike a great many things. I don't like oil induced smog. I'd rather we didn't use much more oil. The effects of fracking are limited to their (relatively) local environment.
Nukes for the win! Plus, neither of the things you mentioned will likely damage the economy the way the climate change hysteria can.
