Can i use the spores that popped in my fc?
    #19386503 - 01/08/14 04:10 AM (10 years, 23 days ago)

There is a near perfect spore print on the aluminum foil that was underneath the cake from a mushroom that grew from underneath it. Then theres also alot of spores on the perlite right next to it, is it possible to use these for a spore syringe if i were to use them fresh? Any opinions and or knowledge would help

Its NOT a clean print. You could try isolating on agar or use another cap to create a sterile print.

It would be better to use a properly prepared print for syringe (not to say you couldn't get away with it, it just wouldn't be as ideal). Or you could always clean it up with a few transfers on agar.

No print would be completely clean/sterile unless it was grown and printed under completely sterile condition.

Yes but you also said to use another cap to create a "sterile print" though which isn't possible because it wasn't grown under sterile conditions. You are correct in that it would produce a much "cleaner" print than using the one from the foil in the FC.

You can't have a sterile print, you need shroom spores on it, hence not sterile.

You want a clean print, then use new foil not stuff that's been siting around in open air for weeks. Do it in a SAB, or use in-vitro fruits.

I've done something similar. I had a cyan grow in a tub, they can be tricky to print sometimes. While dumping the substrate I noticed a partial print. I really didn't believe I could pull it off, thought it would be a lesson in trichology. I swabbed with a sterile swab and transferred to agar. Cyan mycelium will colonize fast and this worked in my benefit. After a few transfers I had a clean culture. I've also have had plenty of prints from shroomers that I failed to clean. If you pour your own plates what do you have to loose besides a couple hours of your time and a pinch of agar?

I say go for it, you will learn even if you fail.
