Is it possible to clone a piece of frozen tissue off mushroom?
    #19383612 - 01/07/14 04:42 PM (10 years, 23 days ago)

I came across one of my tree stumps & the weather here is around 5 degrees F, I picked around 2 mushrooms and wanted to know if I can clone them. They where frozen when I picked them. Their are not dried & I'm talking about Oysters. Would It be okay if I clone them on Agar? Me taking taking a tissue from the middle inside of the mushroom, where it has not been exposed.

Oyster mycelium can freeze solid and then grow when it thaws.  They do it every winter and spring.  You can try to revive it, but I suspect the bacteria and molds will revive first.  If so, just wait for spring and clone a fresh one then.

I have done it successfully with two different specimens this year.  First was frozen solid, and second one was found a day after a spell of weather 20-30 degrees.  They might take some time to jump off to agar, but it seems to be no problem at all.
