My wife is a government bigshot!
    #19381875 - 01/07/14 11:10 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

So my wife is 26 years old, just graduated from her Master's degree. Her professors told her dont even bother trying to apply for the third tier government jobs, its not possible to get them, aim for second tier if you are lucky.

So she applies anyways for the third tier and gets it! Out of over a hundred applicants she got the job!

She is now occupying the same level of government job that my mother who is SIXTY years old has.

She has her own office with a door and no boss overseeing her.

Everyone who she has told is stunned, it was basically considered impossible for her to get this job.

It pays CRAZY well and its an area she is passionate about doing good, meaningful work to help people in need.

She is a legit, high level, high paid government official now!

I am so blown away by her!

I just wanted to share our happiness, because quite frankly we are going to be rich now. My salary alone is enough to pay for all our groceries, bills and costs of living, and hers is several times higher than mine.

This is an EPIC win for her and for us.

My wife is a superstar!

Sorry I just had to share my joy. The difference this is going to make to our already high quality of life is enormous.

It just goes to show, aim high and don't ever let anyone tell you something is impossible! If you want it believe in yourself and make it happen!

:slowreaction:

Thanks guys!

I am debt free and my wife will be debt free by the end of the month!

I have 1000 in savings and she will have 1000 in savings by the end of the month. I know thats not much but its a good start considering our mortgage is paid off and we own our home outright.

I will be saving 300 a paycheck and she will be saving 500 a paycheck.

My job is nothing special, its a low level job but I really enjoy it, its doing good work helping people, its full time (40 hours), it gives me lots of free time to read and write, and I get paid to go to movies and work out at the gym. And my job provides health insurance, medication coverage, dental, massage, physio, chiro, acupuncture, life insurance, the whole shebang to me and my wife. And even though my pay is small, its enough to cover all our costs of living and still save money even if my wife wasn't working. If either of us loses are job the other can carry us, which is reassuring.

So with our home owned and paid for, my health care and life insurance, and her salary... we are going to be really comfortable.

Especially because we don't and will not any kids!

Thanks for being happy for us. I love you all and wish you all the best and every success.

People say she basically skipped five levels of jobs that usually takes like ten years to get through in one giant leap to the top.

She knows middle aged people who have been trying for years just to get the second tier jobs. Shes not even 30 and she got the third tier!

She could be the fucking prime minister some day I really believe that.

Although her goal is to work for the UN. She wanted to be a sniper, or work for the CSIS (Canadian CIA) but I convinced her not to do that

Oh yeah and shes also half way finished her pilots license! She flies little planes called Katanas.

My wife is basically my hero.

I do work full time and I will continue to, but I could be a stay at home husband now and she has said she would like that, but I want to be able to pay my own expenses and have a back up in case something unexpected happened and she lost her job.

Be proud of what you make and the work you do!

Its not our fault the economy is the way it is. Try and be grateful for what you have, however small. Think about the poor Indian brick workers who slave in hellish conditions for pennies, and even minimum wage seems pretty good.

I think its very honorable and commendable to put in a days work, no matter what your pay!

Stay strong!

Be careful, highly motivated women are not the best marriage partners, especially when they overachieve their husbands.

Women don't handle positions of power very well, they get a big head very quickly and sometimes turn into the most unpleasant people.

"My wife is basically my hero."

That might not be a good thing.

That seems like a pretty broad generalization. I don't think its fair to assume all women are the same or respond the same way to success.

When I say shes my hero  I really mean I am incredibly proud of her.

Fortunately I have also had a lot of success in life (I have my masters degree, three university degrees, a 4.0 GPA, won many prestigious and highly competitive scholarships, great physique, etc). So I don't feel totally overshadowed by her, she considers me a genius and has alot of respect for me so I think we will do great.

When I met her she was actually on a fast road to nowhere, and she turned her life completely around because of my love and support (her own words). She says she would be dead by now if she had not met me.

A few years ago I won the SSHRC which is a massive highly valuable scholarship that very very few people get, and it paid tons of money and gave us a great quality of life for years. I have often carried us as a couple financially and still am at this point.

I guess I am just saying I hear what you are saying and appreciate it but

A. I don't think my wife will change for the worse as a result of her success
B. I am pretty impressive in my own right so I don't feel too intimidated

Sorry I know that all sounds kind of arrogant but its true, she has always really admired and respected me and I admire and respect her, its mutual.

Our relationship is extremely strong and close and loving. I know that the future is never known, my own parents divorced after 35 years, so I don't take anything for granted, but I am proud to be "the man behind the woman" in this case.

I am happy my wife is doing better then me in career.

My long term goal is to be professor and a successful author and get a PhD. I think we are both high achievers and we both make each other stronger.

qman is probably the most jaded person on this website, I wouldn't take much of his advice seriously

On the topic of government jobs, I don't have a high opinion of them at all.  I have worked with several government organizations and they have all been abysmal at their jobs.  The title of the thread is an oxymoron (government bigshot).

If she is a high achiever like you say she is going to hate it.  Nothing gets done.

yep.  private university.  $160,000 of debt.  i'm totally assfucked, honestly.  i dug myself a big fucking grave and jumped right in.  i guess i thought i'd be making more, or that the student loan payments wouldn't be so high.  iono...  my life sucks, lololol

You realize you can do an income repayment plan that was implemented by the Obama administration, right? Your loans would be capped off at 10% of your income and be on a payment scale depending on your family size (the less you make the less you pay). And your loans will magically disappear after 25 years - no matter what. Also - I think the highest you can possibly pay per month under this plan is $690 (assuming you are single and have income of about $70,000 per year).
