Is my mycelium healthy?

Hi Shroomery!
So I am currently on my second grow using BRF tek and I've inoculated 6 jars. I've lost 2 beautiful jars to cobweb mold that I have disposed of already and 1 hasnt started to show any growth yet. I inoculated them on 12/23/13. I've been paranoid lately and needed to see if these jars are coming along okay. I've noticed some grayer areas in some jars but it could be new mycelium coming in.
Another thing, where is the best place to store BRF jars? I keep them at the top of my closet on a shelf. It has worked out for me on my first grow but I am wondering if there are any better spots to keep them? Thanks!
*NOTE* Don't mind the yellow line in the center, it's just the reflection from my ceiling light.

Something may be wrong here. These two mycelium patches look quite a bit different and they don't seem to be merging together like they should if they were the same species of fungi. I would have to say there's a very real chance that grayer mycelium you're seeing is a mold.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I'll just wait a few more days and see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

i agree with kizzle... ive had this happen before and metabolites were released between where the myc meets.

This may be a really newbie question but what are metabolites? Are they bad? Is it something to be concerned about?
EDIT: I just found out it was just waste

Its not waste its an enzyme (I think) please correct me so I know for sure if that's incorrect... Anyways its a by product of the myc fighting contams.

not always fighting contams though, stress due to heat, over colonization amongst others but it's a natural process

I think it could be over colonization. When I was injecting one of my jars, I think I squeezed in like .5cc in a hole by accident

it would have to be fully colonized before it can be over colonized lol

You're a little confused there bud. The amount of solution has nothing to do with the fact that if those two spots were the same species of mushroom they would be merging together rather then the whiter spot being stalled by the darker stuff.
Here's an old thread I came across while in preparation of starting my pf tek grow.
Everything looks similar but then the two meet and it's game over, stall crash and burn. Be ready for it.

I have had that happen to me before. From what I understand it is two incompatible sets of genetics that come together but don't mend. This has happened with at least one jar in each grow that I have done from spore. I have not had an issue with contamination. That said, It is wise to keep an eye on it in case something changes, but for now it looks consistent with what I have seen. At the first signs of green or black though, definitely ditch it.
