Cary Elwes
    #19380037 - 01/06/14 11:00 PM (10 years, 24 days ago)

Think of roles for which Cary Elwes would/could have been a better choice.

I like Neil Patrick Harris but I think Elwes could have been great in the Harold & Kumar movies instead.

Roles Carry Elwes Should Have Played:
Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins)/Silence of the Lambs
Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro)/Raging Bull
Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks)/Forrest Gump
E.T./E.T.
Gollum (Andy Serkis)/The Lord of the Rings
Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe)/Gladiator
Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando)/The Godfather
Hal-9000/2001: A Space Odyssey
Tony Montana (Al Pacino)/Scarface
Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson)/Lethal Weapon
Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson)/Schindler's List

I'll have to think of some more, but I think that list is off to a good start.

All good posts so far.  Except Smaug, because Cumberbatch is awesome.  Dat timbre.

Elwes should have been in Tropic Thunder and not that nerdy little white dude.  His role should have been dropped and Cary could have played himself.

He should've played Malcolm X in Malcolm X. He would've been much more believable than Denzel.

And Carl Weathers role in Predator.

And Maverick in Top Gun. Imagine how much cooler this graemlin would be if it was Cary Elwes. :likeaboss:

I bet he would enjoy this thread. Probably more attention than he's received in a long time.

What's up with all this free time to wax poetic about obscure actors, OP?

I really thought he'd retired from acting until I looked into it.  Turns out last thing I watched with him in it was Saw.  He's been sneaky for a while it seems.

Apparently he did some directing and voice acting for Pinky and the Brain :awesome:

He should have been that one dude(with the really good complexion)'s dad in Dazed and Confused.

Me neither admittedly, but I hear it's good so probably.

Cary Elwes should have been in Better Off Ted.  That show is awesome and I think he could have been squeezed in somewhere for even more hilarity.

He might have been funny in Taxi Driver but it would have changed the entire ambiance of the movie.  Positively or negatively I'm not sure.

He should have been the protagonist in The Hurt Locker (Actually I like that guy but the swap would be funny).

I've watched it twice in the past week but I kept blacking out/passing out.  The first 30-45 minutes or so that I can remember were really good but I think I just need to watch it sober (tomorrow)

I'm not sure if I've ever been so excited to watch a movie for the third time in such a short span of time.

Penn & Teller should have been a trio:  Penn, Teller, and Elwes
While I think he'd have been great as Neo, I must say I'd like to see him as either The Merovingian or The Architect.
