It's a semi-monstrose San Pedro. I have on exactly like it. It was sold to me by a reputable nursery around here as "Trichocereus pachanoi var monstrose"
It has semi-monstrose growth for a little bit, then grows upward, monstrose, upward, and so forth.

Yes, I second that. And, it's a bit of a good looking and slightly rare cactus to be consuming. You could easily chop that thing in half and still get the dose you're after. Plant the stub half so it pups multiple times.

even better idea so you can plant the pups and have even more cacti and soon a cactus army (o.k. the army might be a little over board ,but it'll still be cool.)

That makes sense to me, since PC is a specific clone line.

It looks like a pc pachanoi monstrose, but according to the guys above those don't exist, and they are far more experienced in this than I am. Perhaps it could be a "classic" San Pedro? Don't take my word for it, that's just a guess.

Yea u could easily tell the difference between pc and non pc by the spines. Upclose pictures will confirm this. Usuall the pc will have spines that point upward. And non pc will have spines that point downwards usually the central spine.

Definitely report back if you do. There's this local nursery around here that has a ton of these, really cheap too. Seems like they labeled them a long time ago and they don't sell them often so they've grown a lot and they never changed the prices. I'll go and buy a bunch more if it ends up bein a good one.

Do you know does this san pedro grow monstrose form only at one time at season?
Seems it's season based what makes it go start playing with ribs and rest of the time probably nice warm summer it grows like normal..?
I have heard some monstrose plants, even crested plants turn to normal growth if climate or season change.
If we think pedro grow 1foot in year. Seems there is early spring or late summer it have started to play with ribs..
Do you know why is that almost identical length of section growing monstrose and then turn back to normal? Can you find out what time of the year that growth have occur?
For my eyes seems normal growth and later on monstrose (or another way) have been caused by environmental factors. But yes it's indeed san pedro.. I'm just curious why I can almost see same lenght o growth of monstrose and then back to normal rest of the year and then again some monstrose and it turns back to normal..
I have just read and seen photos about how environmental factors, even spring, summer and fall can cause monstrose growing back to normal or another way, maybe this plant have same thing?
Can you ask from the guy who give you this beautiful specimen what time of the year this short section of monstrose growth have been occur or do they even have occur same time of growing season?
I have myself two, very short monstrose san pedro, 2inch growth tips cut from plant. It seems my monstrose pedro growing pattern are the way it stops growth of columnar at some point and starts to pup from top again an grow new section of monstrose and then again get stunted and pup from top.
My monstrose san pedro cuttings are originally somewhere from south america imported to eu. I'm curious are this same or do there are different monstrose san pedro clones around?

This specimen was collected from an elder lady's yard in the western desert of Arizona the cactus was huge my friend says and the lady let him take several feet from the cactus. My friend powered a foot or so and after sampling a few heaping table spoons he says there is potency to this cactus, ill let you guys know after dosing about a foot.

I'm curious..
Do you have any report about was that foot section of cactus strong, average, mild or inactive? You guys have weighted the dried tissue before ingestion to know probably potency?
However, only ~3days have passed you write about report will come, but I may assume it have been tested and also that time have been over weekend anyway.
I'm very interested to know even I don't probably have same clone in my gaarden.. But I'm so curious about what appearance of cacti are active and what doesn't.. There seem to be lots of different appearance plants reported to be active so I'm very interested to hear about this san pedro.

Kinda looks like this smaller Trichocereus bridgesii. Especially when compared to your original close-up shots Like the gnarly twists and stuff. Something you would never see in a San Pedro or Peruvian Torch
Im not expert thou.
