Amazon - 100 scalpels #22
I already have a scalpel, but what kind of blades are best for agar. Do some pick up the agar wedge more easily than other types?

I am wondering the same thing. I made a mess of my agar yesterday when I went to cut away a contam for my first time. The agar was slipping off the knife like wet soap. Honestly, I think it would be like that no matter what you used. Maybe consider investing in an inoculation loop.

It's like cutting through jello, you could do it with a butter knife honestly, just most people don't wanna ruin their kitchen knives by heating them red hot.

I like a #22 blade, but that's what I grew up on in grade school dissections through collegiate gross anatomy. It's got a nice wide shovel if you come in at a shallow angle, so you can make your perpendicular cuts to section the wedge, and then turn the blade as parallel to the agar as you can and take a swoop, slicing off just the top layer at a slight angle and getting a thinner slice to transfer to new plates.

#11 are my favorite. I have probably about 100 disposables I got from work. Allows for some pretty exact cuts.

#11 here as well, they are good for getting into test tubes if you keep stock cultures too.
