I see
how do you decipher which would be?
when I close my eyes I see all sorts of creatures. I can extend my throat like a frog and I had a really good bullfrog friend as a child... like really close hehe... like kin.
reptiles, amphibians, felines, shellfish(especially crayfish), octopus, bat, plants, fungi
decay
when I was meditating, I would see through the eyes of what seemed to be a large cat in a jungle. Over and over traversing through lush vegetation.
hard to say... I do relate and connect deeply with felines

This is just an anecdote I find amusing, but me and two of my housemates a good 13 years ago were tripping on a 'heroic' dose of shrooms. My buddy, Nick, was having a bit of a tough time adjusting to the experience, and as he walked down the stairs to make a cup of tea, he felt that the spirits of his ancestors were guiding him, trying to to help him. He told them "No thank you, I'd rather figure this one out for myself" and instantly started feeling better, like himself again - and he really was, like a whole different person from our brief intermission with one another.
I fuckin' roared with laughter, mostly because if I felt my ancestors were guiding me, I know I'd eat that shit right up, "oh show me your wisdom wise ancestors!" Yet here this guy said "no thanks" and received his little portion of enlightenment.
-------------------- Everything is better than it was the last time. I'm good. If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care. It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence. I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too. If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

^^what are you saying. It could be anything.
To me, spirit guides whatever form they take, it is for a individual's satisfaction. To choose and declare specific form of some animal, although it does not have to be animal at all, is only for out brains to feel more satisfied.
My band of spirit guides became formless to me, as I realized it to be so. And if I try to see them, they would have more of human like appearance then that of animal. So how do you decipher? You dont, you just pick as all who posted here did pick some animal and declared it to be a form of a spirit guide..

You may even pick, yet for it to hold truth. Usually it is not so.
people learn to know themselves.. they will gain knowledge of their spirit guide, a form that manifests in every way.. both a visual picture and a feeling.. a word and a colour..it needent be an animal in vision, but still it is often depicted as one so to describe it to thers.. It would be more accurate for me to say my spirit guide is a blazing flame with a hint of yellow sphereness, but it wouldnt be to easy to understand..
. some people are devided, and thus they have several spirit guides.. a spirit guide in a shamanic sense, anyway, is a ... spiritual reflection of yourself.. knowing ones spirit guide, thus much about them, I gain much power.. Though I have willingly shared my own to you, as an act of good faith, even though most will have no advantage of it..
-------------------- And thus begins the reverse-fusing of our one-dimentional understanding, and adds ever-expanding perspectives, in depth and number; splitting our perception, and in so doing, seemingly irrationally, creates yet more one-ness, with all that ever was, is and will ever be, streching across the infinite, inunderstood concept of everything, percievable and not.

And what is true? Is there absolute truth? I don't believe so.
Yes, because its difficult for humans to have interaction with blazing yellow light sphere, on some unconscious level, transform that energy into animal form or some other that makes some sense for individual. For one of my guides I have no problem with him presenting himself to me as a giant humanoid creature with silver/black translucent body. For other Ill get a goat...
It does not really matter, since creatures of spirit only take forms of creatures we are familiar with for our convenience.
Sharing your own reflections is as sign that you are release your fears.. its a good thing. So here I am also..

gotcha, well then I think I'll have to go with my original gut feeling and say every single thing imaginable and not.

Well, how do you feel when you look your self in the mirror. I love them as I would love my self, and I fear them as I would be fearful.. and so on.

On quite a few DMT trips I have observed this entity that is similar to a dragon fly picking me up and placing me in a multiple colored cloud of energy which makes me feel total love.
I have a feeling that it is one of my spirit guides, perhaps posing as a dragonfly to interact.

Try poking him with a knife and see what happens.
As for the whole spirit guide thing, my first reply was a joke, though I do think flying squirrels are pretty awesome. I've had interesting encounters with owls and lynx on several occasions, even meeting one of each in the same place within several days. But I grew up in the bush, so I met a lot of animals.
