WBS colonizing question
    #19373979 - 01/05/14 05:31 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

A few of my jars seem like they hit a spot like this and they just can't seem to fill in the blanks. This one an a few others have been sitting for a week fully colonized except one tiny spot.
Can I go ahead an just mix them with my sub?

It's pretty dry in those spots actually. Almost like a tiny air pocket between a group of seeds

Break That shit up,
when you break it up <depending on your lid> you might be able to smell it and see if it's mushroom good or sour/sweet bad.

If it takes more then 48 hours to fully recover you definitely have some bacteria contamination in there.

I always shake my jars two days before I use them to inoculate just to make sure they are good. they always smell great when I open them, the ones that didn't recover quick enough, always smell like contamination.

good luck bro.

id say 85% sure its bacteria if its been like that for last several days.  also making me think that is there are many spots where ur grain in pressed against the glass and the myc has not colonized it (tiny spots yes, but bacteria is especially good at multiplying quickly and efficiently once conditions become more appropriate).  i'd wait to see if it grows, or if u have other jars and u can kind of experiment with this, spawn to less than field capacity sub.  i just went thru this the other day, and cron helped me out.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18167050
sometimes it works, but u gotta make sure it hits 100%. esp. if grain is mid jar and not "scoop able" from atop

apparently i suck at using WBS because i got like a 40% contam rate with my jars (all bacteria like that or even less apparent).  moved to rye for now, but ill be back one day

yea what stool said is a great idea actually (must have written this as he replied)

i would wait another couple of days for em to finish..it really looks like it will finish..
if not just spawn em anyways..those grains might just be too dried out

Ignore those last two Fools,
Shake that fucking Jar, If in minimum 24 to Max 48 hours it doesn't grow back and look Complete then it's trash go outside, or at least out of your inoculation / grow room and smell it. Guaranteed that it smell a little sweet / sourish.

Most of those jars that had that were located on the bottom. I tipped them on their sides so the excess water would not pool up around it. Maybe that'll kick start them

hmmm....dont hold ur breath. i wish u luck tho!  start prepping grains for net project perhaps.  like i said, I sucked at WBS never found the right soak/simmer/pc time. looking back i should have been pacing full 90 min, instead of 70.  those little millet and red seed things have a tough shell.

Excess water should not be in grain jars.  If you have standing/pooling water during colonization, you will most likely see bacteria show up.
