Infrared Thermometer

Hi all! I'm thinking of buying one of those infrared thermometers that look like a pistol. I'm sure it would be an invaluable tool to monitor temperatures, for example during a pasteurisation process or when letting an agar mix cool down before pouring dishes or making slants... but they're quite pricey and they have an error margin of 2 degrees Celcius. Is that precise enough? I suppose that in above mentioned situations a difference of 2 degrees wouldn't matter that much, right? Although... a margin of 2 degrees means a reading of 76 degrees C can be anything between 74 and 78 degrees... Are there situations were this would matter? Below 40 degrees I don't care much because I've got a common thermometer for that...
Should I go for a more expensive model with a smaller error margin? Or just buy this one and stop worrying about a few degrees?

Bro if you really want a super fancy thermometer and have the money to spend then by all means. Go with the most expensive one. GO BIG OR GO HOME! I would personally recommend getting a cheap ass regular thermometer. (Meat thermometer) Remember mycology is all about KISS! Anyway goodluck with your endeavor! Update with your decision! Cheers!

They are useful, but they will only tell you the surface temperature of objects. We usually want to see the core temperatures of substrates (such as during pasteurization or perhaps the core temp of your sub while its colonizing.)
The most useful thermometer I have is one of those wired probe types that you can set an alarm for when a temperatures set upper bound is hit. Like this one.... Amazon Link Also has a timer on it so its really useful.
I think you would get alot more utility out of something like this.

Those are only good for surface temp, which is pretty useless for mycology Usually you want either core temp or air temp And from my experience with those pistol types they give off alot of false readings until you learn how to use it properly, i never bothered to

Would one of the handheld gun infrared thermometers be useful for finding a warm spot in your house to let PF Tek substrate colonize? I ask because I already own one for other purposes (checking when a pan is hot enough to sear a steak) and walked around pointing it at shit to see what came back.
It turns out the area above the fridge is indeed hot enough for PF Tek substrate jars, with mine coming in around 71F. Can I use this throughout PF Tek to check things related to the temperature?

don't even worry about putting them in a warm spot. any room temp is fine, the warmer it is it may finish a whole day faster but your chances of bacterial contamination will go up
PF jars will fully colonize in the fridge

Can i toss grain jars in the fridge that are done to stall them so my other ones catch up?

Ok, thanks. Both of the cupboards I'm thinking of are around 70F constantly. I know I can basically do whatever, but for optimal growth, should the jars be put on the 12/12 cycle just like the birthed cakes?
The mycelium reacts positively to a circadian rhythm just like the pinned fungi, right?
