That was a great fight for sure. Him and Gaethje need another fight.

Honestly, if Gaethje can somehow conjure a miracle from the heavens and beat Nurmagomedov, I see his next fight being Poirier easily. Past that, there would be really no kind of worthy opponent to match him up with after that. With him back-to-back taking out the IC and C of the lightweight division like that, who would even be a challenge?
Again, that's if he wins. My money is on Nurmagomedov easily.

I think Gaethje could probably easily defeat Poirier now. Poirier will not have an answer for his leg kicks and left hook. That fight with Khabib though...
I don’t care how good of a striker Gaethje is, I’m not thinking anyone in the division is on Khabib’s level.
Although the ground and pound is inevitable every fight, he is still entertaining to watch.

Man, I don't know that Gaethje wins. Poirier was the IC for a reason, and yeah Justin did win against an IC in Tony, but Poirier just has amazing striking, but yeah you're right those leg kicks are pretty brutal lmao.
And yeah no kidding. Nurmagomedov has already torn through so many strikers that I'm thinking he can't just be cleanly knocked out with the correct hit like so many think he can be.
I agree. Seeing how his opponent deals with the inevitable is the real reason to watch the fight lol

I was reading they are trying to get Ferguson and Poirier as co-main at UFC 254. Diamond is currently holding out for more money hahaha. Imagine that...
That would be a pretty awesome fight though.

It'll be interesting to see Gaethje on the ground. I don't think he has used his wrestling in a single fight.
He has zero take downs in UFC.

I honestly don't know how good Ferguson is doing after his bout v Gaethje, good lorde that was a beating and a half. But if he's back to how he usually is then I'd love to see him take on Poirier, surprised that match up hasn't been made already.
And lmao yeah Gaethje's wrestling is going to be really interesting to see v a Nurmagomedov. Like, he's just not known for it y'know? He's known for giving and taking massive strikes, but that says nothing to his ground game. We'll see how it turns out in Oct.
Spoiler, Khabib's probably gonna walk away with his 29-0.

PellianFellow I think Khabib's wrestling is on a different level that Gaethje. But can Gaethje land a few of those calf kicks before getting mashed into the mat by Khabib each round until Khabib cannot shoot with speed and power anymore and Gaethje takes over. Interesting matchup for sure.

Minor point, but Khabib's grappling is on a different level.
Gaethje's gameplan is clear as day: We assume he has better striking than Khabib, and that his D1 All American wrestling credentials will stop the takedown. Much easier said than done, but it'll be interesting.

If Gaethje is smart he hasn't thrown a strike in practice. He should be wrestling wrestling & wrestling otherwise he'll get smashed like everyone else.

Focusing on wrestling is obvious, but never abandon what got you to the dance. Never forget to train your strengths and improve them.
Many strikers have talked about how focusing on wrestling and takedown defense in preparation for wrestlers has been the fatal flaw for their performance. Their striking suffers.
Watch tape, gameplan smart, but train everything- especially your strengths.

Gaethje will be a problem because he's dangerous even when gassed. He can land a KO shot at any time throughout the 5 round fight. On the contrary I think it will be hard for Khabib to finish Justin.
I'll stick pick Khabib by decision.

I'm definitely a UFC fan. I don't like this matchup the reason being that Pacquiao does not seem to do well against unorthodox fighters. One has only to watch his match against Jeff Horn (who I don't consider a good boxer) to see this. Yet Pacquiao lost that on. Also earlier in Pacquiao's career on the few occasions where Pacquiao was knocked out it seemed to be against boxers who were unothodox and awkward. I don't count the knockout by Marquez here which seemed more due to Pacquiao's carelessness. Can't say that I am a fan of MMA vs boxer matchups or the reverse even if it can make some people a lot of money.

As an MMA fan, I'd be totally comfortable with the three time retirement-weight champion to leave MMA forever and just go make his money selling his whisky.
On the other hand, if he keeps finding ways to piss off Dana White, I support that.
