People seem to forget he took out Aldo in 12 seconds, Alvarez, Mendes, Diaz, Poirer, Holloway. How is that not compelling?

Compare that to khabib's 26 and nObody record and inability to finish.

He has entertaining fights, but his antics, and the UFC's blatant promotion of them due to his marketability, make a mockery of what is supposedly a sport.

And MMA is hardly a sport.  It's a regulated, competitive spectacle.

I haven't been paying attention to the pre-fight hype, but if McGregor has won the mental game, he's already won this fight via early KO.

wow you guys really think Conor has a chance?

i mean he is a superb fighter... one of the best no fucking doubt... he went what? 7 rounds with possibly the best boxer to ever lived? in floyd?

that is all perfectly understandable

but you all do not see the bigger picture..

Khabib The Bear is another type of beast he will dominate Conor on the ground and destroy him for all 5 rounds... how could you all not see this ?

i will come back to this thread after the fight and see what the 2 posters above me have to say about it.

Actually, I agree. Traditionally the pure grappler beats the pure striker. There is no reason to believe Conor will win.

But we've said this prior to all Conor's fights. Mendez has too strong of wrestling. Alvarez will use his wrestling, Aldo will use grappling. This has been said before every Conor fight, but he still wins. Everyone believes the key to beating Conor is grappling, but few have been successful.

Khabib looked like garbage his last fight against Iaquinta and marginally better against Barboza, finishing neither. The "beast" of bear can sure lay on top of people like no other.

McGregor surely has been practicing his ground n pound.. He's not going to go in there empty handed.

I cant remember their name but he brought someone in to prepare for the ground game.

In order to take conor down hes gonna need to get in the pocket without eating a left hook followed up by a right jab.

It's not like I'm 100% confident of a McGregor victory.  I think it's fair to make the betting lines pretty even, actually.  If Khabib takes him down and pounds on him for five rounds or submits him, I won't be shocked. If he KOs McGregor in the stand-up, yeah I'll be surprised.

But I agree with some of what badchad said:

As the adage goes, every fight starts on the feet.  With the exception of panic wrestling when Nate Diaz rocked him and Mendes taking him down, he's been able to keep his fights standing and usually finish his opponents this way.

I'd love to see the little shit get humiliated by Khabib. Hell, I'd love to see him get wheelkick KO'd by Khabib.  But McGregor has proven his fight IQ and preparation, so I cautiously pick him to win.

I hope I'm wrong.

What do you think is more exhausting?

Constantlyy sprawling to defend a take down or constantly attempting a take down and failing?

I say the attempt. When you shoot, your opponent sprawls forcing you to carry his weight.

:justno:

Ground and pound is done from the top position, which would indicate Conor putting Khabib on his back and no one puts Khabib on his back. Maybe you mean Conor has been practicing sneaky shots off his back that will open up space for him to get back to his feet? From the bottom is the only place Conor will play from if it hits the mat.

But Khabbs wrestling is mostly Greco style he trips his opponents often from the clinch he doesn't "shoot" like most American wrestlers.

I need to watch more Khabib fights on youtube.  Honestly, i've barely seen him fight so I dont really know his style other then what people say.  Which is that he is a ground guy and a scary one too.

Ground n pound, BJJ from the bottom, I think Conor is preparing for it all.

lol are u really asking that? attempting and failing a takedown is 100000x more exhauting then defending a simply take down :bathtub40lol:

Glad I got my pick wrong.  Satisfying to see McGregor get clipped on the feet like that in round 2.

McGregor is already demanding a rematch.
