Ah well... you were right. No Ko in the 2nd but close enough
It's a shame though, that the two main events were so short. The earlier fights of the night were more exciting than the two main events! Even the prelims were pretty good!
Next in line: Welterweight championship

She might have recovered a second too late... I heard that herb Dean said in an interview that she went down, facedown (when normally you would roll to your back and defend) with one hand covering her midsection and the other on the mat. So she wasn't intelligently defending herself at that point...could he have let it go longer? Sure, but who knows what could've happened. She'll get a rematch after a fight or two. And DC looked AMAZING at 205! The next two pay per view events are going to be ridiculous! Looking forward to the Hendricks/Lawler fight!!!!

Well, for me, the bottom line is that Herb only had her best interest in mind. I guess it could be argued that if he had Tj's best interest in mind he would have stopped it sooner, but then again, being a ref has to be one of the worst jobs out there. Nobody's ever going to agree a hundred percent with your decisions. But I think he and the others try their best and we shouldn't be so quick to judge the decisions they make. What would we do if we had that kind of responsability? And I'm not just talking about you guys here, I say that because i've been reading comments on Google+ all day and I think people are quick to criticise.
Anyway. I hope McMann gets a rematch, soon.
Who have you guys got for march 15th? My money's on Hendricks. Not because I like the guy more than Lawler. it's just because of my gut feeling. Hendrick's a beast and he's hungry.

Hendricks might be a beast but so is Robbie... do you remember him from back in the day? He was knocking everyone out. And he's never held a ufc belt either....its gunna be good. I don't think I even have a prediction yet... I wanna see Robbie win cause I like him but like you said, Hendricks is a beast and he's gunna have boat loads of confidence coming into this fight...someone's taking a nap on the 15th!

Indeed! Sleepy time for one of the guys and it'd be funny to see Johny go down for once. I don't remember if I've mentioned it before, but I'm pretty new to MMA and the UFC. In fact, next month it will be my first anniversary as a fan! So I can't really remember the old days of Robbie
One thing's for sure: both guys plan on giving us one hell of a fight.

Oh ok. Didn't realize you were still kind of new to MMA. I've been watching ufc for about 9 or 10 years, but that's only cause I grew up in south Fla right down the street from Ben Saunders!!! So I got into it kinda early .... I would LOVE to see Robbie finally get a belt! Oh! And also, I was watching Rogans podcast with War Machine last night and he mentioned BJ Penn is training to come back and fight!!! You heard anything about this???

No more Vitor!
Looks like Machida is going against Weidman on UFC 173! To be honest I'm more excited about this one

Ahhh...say it ain't so! I knew this would happen cause they are fighting in vegas and not Brazil... Vitor is taking that testosterone replacement stuff... I was looking forward to seeing if Vitor still had a little "Phenom" left in him. But Machida presents a WHOLE NEW set of problems for Chris tho! Machida has a great chance in this fight, IMO.

Just for the belt, im sure...can't blame him either. Dana calls and asks if you want a shot at a belt, you take it. Your normal weight class or not I forgot he had been fighting at 185 for a little while now, and doing really well also.

Lol...that too imagine the frustration all the fighters have. Fighting for so many years, training and working SO hard and you finally make the UFC and someone like Jones or GSP or Anderson have the belt.... what can ya do?!?! Just wait around and try to win as much as possible and hope they retire soon?? I wonder how many more people are training at 170 & 185 now that GSP and Anderson aren't around right now lol

How funny is that...and completely true! Lol, it would be Randy/Toney 2... I think "Lights-out" probably showed the majority of boxers that they should box and MMA fighters should do MMA (for the most part) but their are a lot more MMA guys that could box successfully than boxers successfully transitioning to MMA.

Eh. Nobody is invulnerable. A truly dedicated and skilled fighter would train to exploit the weaknesses of their opponent. This has been done for all three of the champions you mentioned, though the result wasn't necessarily a 100% convincing win. GSP certainly was not able to dominate Hendricks. Silva fell twice to the same guy. Jon Jones was given a run for this money is the last fight.
An important factor regarding MMA: fighters will compete around three times a year or sometimes less. It's not like most sports where there is seasons or weekly competitions. So a multi-year win streak, while impressive, isn't indicative of invulnerability.
Just look at what happened with Machida. Undefeated, wins Light Heavyweight title, and Joe Rogan is all declarative-like:
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Machida era."
He was knocked out by his next opponent in the first round.

True...but in their prime, they were unbeaten. Both Silva and gsp have been fighting for a looong time. Jones I think underestimated Alexander and he was getting a little full of himself . Buying into his own hype. and also, not everyone only fights a few times a year... that's more champions than anyone else... Faber just fought 4 or 5 times last year... even Demitriois Johnson (sorry, spelling) 4 times (I believe) last year and he is the champ...

Not to mention that fights in the octagon, in front of a crowd are one thing, but let's not forget all the hours of training and sparring these guys go through in between. We often hear champs or challengers say that their training camps were designed to be as hard or even harder than their upcoming fights so that when the fight finally comes, they've already gone through what it entails. We only see a tiny percentage of what the fighters go through on a day to day basis.

Which is abnormal. Times Faber fought each year: 2009 - 2 2010 - 3 2011 - 3 2012 - 1 2013 - 4
You'll find this is true for most fighters. Some fight less often, often because of injuries. Lyoto Machida: 2009 - 3 2010 - 2 2011 - 2 2012 - 1 2013 - 3

I am in no way referring to their training. When all is said in done, fighters are stacked against each other based on the 1-4 times a year they're on stage. It's an enormous disparity compared athletes of other mainstream sports who are playing sometimes on a weekly basis during a season. I'm not saying this as a critique of the sport, rather a critique of how the the sport (and probably most combat sports) and the competitors are often discussed, especially by media.
I absolutely love the sport, but it's an enormous hype machine that often precludes logical thought about the realistic status of a fighter amongst his or her peers. It leads to blown up perspectives on the abilities of a fighter and allusions to invulnerability of a particular fighter by fans, media, and "experts" alike. Joe Rogan's Machida comment is a classic example.
I've been watching this sport for over a decade and I wish I had a gold nugget for every time someone says something to the effect of: "Who is possibly left in this division for you to fight, GSP/Anderson Silva/Jon Jones/Frank Shamrock/Tito Ortiz/Chuck Liddell/Fedor/Matt Hughes/etc. etc. etc.?!?!?!?" They're elite athletes, but the pool of elite is deeper than is often portrayed.

If you are top 5 in a division in the ufc, you are an elite fighter. It could be argued that if you're in the ufc period, you're an elite fighter... and a few of those fighters you have on that list cleared out the top fighters in their division at one point...Chuck, Anderson, Matt, GSP..... and how many fights did Fedor even have in the ufc lol.. he dominated Pride for a little though
