Quick question about the coloring inside mushrooms
    #19376349 - 01/06/14 08:44 AM (10 years, 25 days ago)

Hey, i'm fairly new to this.
During this current cube grow my growing area is below optimum temperature due to the cold weather and my over-misting has led to some of the mushrooms being subject to rot and smelling slightly fishy.
However, some mushrooms on the cake appear/smell fine mid grow...
When I’ve picked one or two of them and sliced them vertically, they display a light brown color.

From what I remember of my past healthy mushrooms, the insides should be white?  Have I caught these in the process of rotting or will they be fine? As I say, no smell and they look okay from the outside but the rotting is certainly worrying me.

Merci

Cold shouldn't be a factor as long as u got room temp ive grown in mid 60s and just got slow growibg dense ass fruits over misting will only blue them not rot them IME and pics would help forsure but if they smell are discolored and rotting I wouldn't risk consuming make sure you've evaporated a lot of moisture before u mist I've heard more the marrier but there's a point

yes my temp is in the low 60s and the grow has been excruciatingly slow.  i;ve altered my misting because the moisture didn't seem to be evaporating quite so well.  i've had to chuck certain mushies because of a fishy odor that i believe to be rot... what else could it be? there is no visible contam but the inside do look quite dark?

I have had portabellos got dripped on regularly that would get the a fishy odor.  I refused to eat them, and am almost 100% that the physical presence of moisture on the cap introduced and provided bacteria the perfect environment.  I will not eat anything at all that has any fishy smell.  When you misted, did you get water directly onto the fruits?  That would be my guess at the culprit.

i was misting heavy and i think droplets of moisture did sit on the fruits, yes.
this is where i believe the colder room temps didn't help me as the moisture may not have evaporated as quickly as it has done in the past.

what i don't understand is that the fruits look okay at a glance, right? (check the photo). no visible sign of contams or anything and yet the black inside and a fishy odor. does mushy rot have that kind of smell?

merci everyone for your input thus far.
