Picked wild Reishi, black in some areas
    #19373845 - 01/05/14 04:56 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Hello all, I picked these mushrooms a couple of days ago. I believe they are Reishi, however some parts of the surface are black as shown in the photos below. I was planning to make a tea out of them, is it okay to consume if I boil them for a long time? Or should I just cut off the skin?

Thank you for any input

Where are you at?  I mean, are they in season there?  You don't want to use rotten fruits, and black generally isn't good.  But people in florida have been harvesting fresh ones

I think that is actually a Fomitopsis pinicola. Not Ganoderma.

Scratch the pore surface. If it does not immediately turn brown where
damaged then you do not have a Ganoderma sp.

Thanks for the replies guys.

As Ganzig said I think this might be a Fomitopsis pinicola after further research. I got these specimens in Tofino, BC, Canada.

Oh well, shit happens.

Yeah first reaction was those aren't Ganoderma.
