So I was going through old photos, and found some of my first grow several years ago. I thought it would be cool if we could all post our first grows!
First successful petri dish-
A shiitake clone, inoculated in OPEN AIR.
First mushrooms-
On pasteurized sawdust.
Let's see em!

I went big for some reason on my first grow.

Nasty looking oysters. They so needed more air.

Neat idea for a thread though.

King oysters cloned from grocery store. PF Tek in shotgun terrarium, except I couldn't get perlite and used those porous clay pebbles instead. Got about 1 ounce per cake. They were delicious despite their appearance.

They seemed to just grow themselves.
I just grew them out of that bread bag on top of my refrigerator just as they are.

I think we can all sympathize.
Looking back at what an idiot I was makes me laugh.
Seems like the biggest noob mistake by far is not enough fresh air. (Except ganzig, those are fairly perfect )

This is actually a good idea. If I would have thought of this a couple years ago, I probably would've tried it.

Nice, they look like cauliflower!
I was really happy with my second grow, I still have no idea why it turned out so well.

My first grow was some kits from FP and a toilet paper kit from field and forest. Here are the mushrooms from the Toilet paper kit:

I actually did petri dishes and spawn before I fruited mushrooms; then I tried pasteurized straw without chopping it (I had no way to do it at the time). I would add straw to a large trash bin, fill it 2/3 of the way with hot tap water, then pour in 2 pots of boiling water. I covered it , let it sit for an hour, drained and spawned. I did it this way a couple times a week for months lol! Then I started chopping straw but I still kept this past. method, and for small scale it is quite easy
Here are pics of my first grow, where I actually did something beside buy the kit:
