Cakes started fruiting
    #19372481 - 01/05/14 11:39 AM (10 years, 26 days ago)

My friends cakes start fruiting today. She removed cakes 1 weeks ago from jars (90% colonized) because she thought they started fruiting.

Today she noticed something blue on cakes. I will upload images and please advice me if they are contamed.

Also I have few questions

Does it possible to cakes contamed after 100% of colonization?

Why mushrooms started growing only bottom on this cake?

Peace.

yes contams are still possible and you should have dunke and rolled those, there fruiting at the bottom an bruising at the top because gravity is drawing moistuire to the bottom of your cakes, put some moist verm on top and cut back the size of the foil

Ok if it is still possible to contamed how i can add wet vermiculite?

Do i need sterilize verm? and then just roll my cake?

Sorry, my English is bad can you 'cut back the size of the foil' explain this?

Thank You.

just get some ver wet and pile it on the top, gravity will draw moisture from it and down through your cake, don't bother with the dunk and roll i think you missed that point. and i mean the foil should just be big enough for the cake to sit on like[0]  and not[ 0 ]

dunk and roll....probably the most humid right on the bottom of the cakes....:jah:

I believe dunk and rolling is an essential step in getting your cakes to fruit. Sorry to say, but if your cakes don't start fruiting after you roll in verm, then you may have ruined your grow :frown:

it alos didn't full colonize which probly wasn't planned either lol! i'm just kidding but the dunk n roll is to help the grow not to make it grow i just had to point that out:thumbup: as for the op you can sit them in a saucer of water for a few hours if moisture content is a concern for ya

Okay thanks for that info man. Would it be possible for him to roll these in verm to help it grow at this point?

maybe after this flush but he/she risks damaging the pins that are there already, best to just keep up with the misting/fanning at this point

Thank you for replay.

Maybe I`m asking silly questions but first I`m doing research before ask.

After contamination of fully colonized cakes does mushrooms grow and is it danger for health?

He's saying IF they grow you can eat them... but if you have a contaminated cake that hasn't started pinning...good luck to you.

Dunk and roll : submerge fully colonized cake in water for 12-24 hours...during this time place a small amount of verm in an oven safe pan covered with foil or a lid, bake it on 300 for an hour, let it cool with the lid/foil on the pan, do not open it until the next day when you will roll the dunked cakes in the dry sterile verm...do not do with with hot verm...The blue is only bruising...it is normal...it's from where you touched the mycelium..I can see your thumb print where the bruise is,lol.. Also...you are using the wrong size jars...use the ones like in my signature.

Thats all? I was always afraid tasting mushrooms because thought it can be infected.

So If mushrooms grows it will not be infected? If mycelium is contamed they dont start growing?

So simple?

Its very good news for me thank you.

Btw I know that jars are too big. I cant find straight jars in shops

IT's a little more complex but yes...that is simple bruising...and as long as you keep your humidity high and lots of fresh air then it will fruit....and make sure you cut the foil much smaller...you want the foil to just be big enough for the cake to sit on...no bigger.

excess foil covers the perlite's surface hence reducing the area where humid air can rise up through.

With a SGFC I would imagine large amounts of foil covering the perlite would hinder the air exchange in the chamber.

:whathesaid:... you need to water evaporating close to the cake off of the perlite..
